The University of Latvia resolutely advocates gender equality in work and research. Gender equality is observed at the University of Latvia both in administration and research. In 2021, 72.25% of all students at UL were female. The largest number of women study in part-time studies, 86.22%. As of 1 October 2022, the female students at UL constitute 72.1% of the student population, while of the part-time students 87.06% are female. In 2021, 68% of university administration staff were female, while the female academic staff constituted 54%. Out of 13 faculty deans, 8 are women. The project “Religion and Gender Equality: Baltic and Nordic Developments” implemented by the UL Faculty of Theology will significantly contribute to the promotion of social inclusion, addressing the lack of gender equality in various spheres of life, with special attention to religion and culture. The University of Latvia offers the first and currently the only bachelor's study programme in anthropology in Latvia. The bachelor's programme provides a foundation in anthropology for three years, especially developing research skills and knowledge in qualitative research methodology. Studying one or two semesters, using the opportunities of the Erasmus programme, a student can also study at other European universities. The programme not only prepares academically educated anthropologists, but also serves as a first or further step in development, providing learning and life skills that can be used both in business and work in public and non-governmental sector. Studies are conducted bilingually in Latvian/English. Communication in classes occurs mostly in English, because the study group consists of students from different countries – Latvia, USA, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, but most of the study work can also be done in Latvian. Cisco Networking Academy

The University of Latvia has had the Cisco Networking Academy since 2001, the first in Latvia. Initially, the University of Latvia was a regional academy, which further trained instructors from other Latvian universities. Currently, the University of Latvia has an Academy Support Centre. All four CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate) level training courses are available to students at the Faculty of Computing of the University of Latvia. They learn both networking theory and the skills of creating switched, routed and managed computer networks. Students who have completed all four courses can pass the CCNA certification, which is recognised worldwide by the IT industry.
