Yes, scholarships administered by the UL Foundation are open to allstudents regardless of the source of funding that covers their studies – whether they come from state budget or personally paid fees.
The present course is intended for students with A1 level Latvian language knowledge. The aim of the course is to improve their spoken and written language skills, vocabulary and knowledge of grammatical structures. The course promotes the acquisition of communicative competences including the pragmatic and sociolinguistic competences, and develops students’ understanding of the peculiarities of the Latvian language system and use in the social context, the study process and professional activities. The course has been developed in accordance with the language learning, teaching and assessment guidelines for A2 level set out by the European Council and the Latvian language A2 level description content.
The aim of the course is to provide dentistry students with the knowledge of the Latin language necessary for carrying out the upcoming professional work, including the knowledge essential for the understanding of medical terminology and professional medical literature. In order to achieve that, the students acquire basic knowledge of Latin grammar, medical (both anatomical and clinical) terminology, as well as the writing of the Latin part of prescriptions.
The objectives of the course:
1.to offer the basic information about the grammar of the Latin language and the specifics of medical Latin;
2.to foster the learning of the medical Latin terminology;
3.to develop the skills of writing, understanding and translation of the medical Latin texts in a systematic way.
Language of instruction: Latvian and English.
