Course
The aim of the study course is to provide knowledge and skills on the principles of information systems development, functioning and management. The tasks of the course are to provide knowledge and skills on library, records and archives information systems using a variety of teaching methods. During the lectures students acquire knowledge about the meaning and functions of information systems in different information management institutions. Practical training and seminars develop skills in using library and archive information systems to manage library resources and records and archives. The acquired knowledge and skills can be used in memory institutions (libraries, archives), as well as in archiving records in institutions. Language of instruction - Latvian, English.

Medical Latin
Course
The aim of the study course is to provide opportunities for students to acquire the necessary knowledge of Latin for later qualitative professional activity, as well as to understand medical terminology and professional literature. Tasks of the study course: to acquaint with declension of Latin nouns, verbs of four conjugations, focusing mainly on their use in recipes; to acquaint with the basic principles of the formation of medical terms and the strains of Latin and Greek nouns used in the medical language, to promote a general understanding of the processes of term formation; to promote the understanding of medical texts written in Latin, as well as the preparation of a simple diagnosis in Latin, while introducing the general principles of writing diagnoses. The study course is taught in Latvian.

The purpose of the course is to provide an insight into the multicultural environment of the USA, to introducē to the most important stages in the development of the USA and the American nationa and their significance in the development of the political system and democratic traditions of the country. Tasks of the course are as follows: 1. to provides basic knowledge about American cultural metaphors, traditions, the depiction of the history and diversity of the USA in art as well as the history of development and usage of American English - the regional variant of the English language in the life of the society of the US; 2. for students to develop the skill to acquire, analyze facts and to collate information from various sources and the ability to undertake individual and collective research projects. The course is delivered in English.

Game theory is a branch of mathematics that studies strategic situations where players choose different actions in an attempt to maximize their returns. Game theory is used in many different fields of sciences: economic, ecology, sociology, philosophy, psychology. Game theory consists of a collection of models. In this course we analyse some models. Particular attention is paid to Nash equilibrium analysis of different situations. The aim of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the concepts and regularities of game theory. Tasks: get acquainted with the main concepts of game theory; to classify games; find out the solution, including the Nash equilibrium. Language of instruction are Latvian.

To get insight into literary and cultural issues in Britain from the period of Romanticism up to the present times; 2. To develop English language competence; 3. To develop critical thinking and creativity, to carry out analysis of poetry and prose texts; 4. To stimulate the analytical, research, and presentation skills. The course is delivered in the English language.

English for Communication in Arts
Course
The course aims at facilitating the students’ ability to communicate about the arts in English, engaging their interest in the arts and expanding their horizons in the humanities. The course covers those art categories which are not studied in other courses of the study programme. The objectives of the course are 1) to study the terminology pertaining to the visual arts, the performing arts, and architecture, 2) to use the arts as a tool to strengthen language integrated skills, fluency and accuracy in communication, 4) to be able to relate the acquired knowledge of the arts in the English-speaking world (the U.K. and the U.S.A.) which has an underlying impact on art history to different cultural contexts. The course is delivered in English.

Course
The aim of the course – to provide students with conceptual knowledge and practical language skills in the business environment; improving the social and commercial oral and written language, resulting in the development of skills and competences in the labor market for co-operation and interaction with the traditions of public and economic life in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. Tasks: 1) to acquire knowledge and skills in writing various business texts, in the culture of sentence creation; 2) to develop communication skills in Swedish (for example, service-oriented communication, conflict situations); 3) to understand the principles of product advertising texts. Language of instruction: Swedish (with explanations in Latvian and/or English).

International Organizations and Economic Globalization
Course
The aim of this course is to introduce students with economic aspects of globalization, its historical development, influencing factors and consequences. The objectives of the course are: to look at the main international organizations and their impact on globalization processes in the world; pay particular attention to international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, the IMF, NATO, the UN, the OECD and others; analyzing global economic integration processes and characterizing the world's largest trading blocs, customs unions and common markets. The course analyzes European Union as the highest form of economic integration, paying special attention to the most important areas of its activities. The languages of instruction are Latvian and English.
