Nonparametric Statistics
Course
The goal of this course is to give students the knowledge of nonparametric statistical methods, which solve the problems of mathematical statistics without parametric assumptions about the distribution of the underlying data. In case of the independent and the dependent observations the course will examine the classical bootstrap and jackknife resampling methods, the nonparametric regression, the kernel density smoothing and the empirical likelihood function method. Tasks: 1) To understand main theoretical methods and their proving technique; 2) to be able to use nonparametric statistical methods for practical data analysis; 3) to check the validity and correctness of theoretical methods by using simulations; 4) learn how to use the program R. This course can be thought in Latvian and English languages.

The purpose of the study course is to give students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for work in public administration. Knowledge of public service law is desirable for every lawyer, but necessary for everyone who works or wants to work in public administration. The purpose of the study course is to provide in-depth knowledge about the status, rights and obligations of persons employed in public service relations, prevention of conflicts of interest in public administration, disciplinary responsibility and its application, the state's unified compensation system, etc. The study course is also useful for those who want to deepen their knowledge in the basic issues of administrative law and administrative process. The study course is conducted in Latvian.

Korean Language Consecutive Interpreting III
Course
The aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills of consecutive business translation and to learn the basics of business etiquette, paying special attention to the practical aspects of hosting Korean government officials and delegations. The objectives of the course are: 1) to further develop practical consecutive translation skills in Korean in the context of business meetings; 2) to introduce Korean business etiquette and its differences from the business etiquette of European countries; 3) to acquaint with the meaning and basics of diplomatic protocol; 4) to deepen the knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar of the Korean language; 5) to create a glossary of translations and a dictionary of terminology (on the acquired topics). The course is taught in English, Korean and Latvian.

Preparation of Projects and Publications
Course
The aim of the curriculum is to provide students with basic knowledge and skills about applying projects and writing scientific publications in the biological sciences, as well as the methods of presenting these texts. Objectives of the training course: • Get theoretical and practical knowledge about the goals, format and style of writing texts; • Understand and master the following aspects of writing and submitting texts: the specifics of the research article and project; the most important methods of writing an article; ways of displaying data in figures and tables; • Acquire strategies for searching for sources of literature for drawing up a proposal for a project and a scientific article for a draft and further corrections of manuscripts; • Understand the importance of taking notes for improving the quality of teaching and presentations. The course is taught in Latvian.

The course has two objectives: to explain the culture-based situational conflict model, including the relationship among conflict, ethnicity, andculture; and, second, integrate theory and practice in the discussion of interpersonal conflict in culture, ethnic, and gendercon texts.

Government and Politics of China
Course
The lectures will provide students with insights into the most significant events in Chinese history, by highlighting the specific genesis of the world vision. It will be followed by a description of contemporary political life of the People’s Republic of China, with emphasis on three basic themes: state administration; internal policies; foreign policy. Particular attention will be paid to China's development, its role in the global economy and the global security system. During the seminars practical tasks and the use of interactive learning methods will be used in order to promote the development of the skills to realize a practical analysis of the state policy analysis. Emphasis will be put on specific case studies and analytical tasks, thus applying the knowledge accumulated during the lecture in practice.

The aim of this course is to provide students with general overview of technologies of business data analysis (Business Intelligence – BI), software for business data analysis and their usage. Tasks of this course: 1) get overview of business data analysis software, its functionality and usage; 2) get deeper understanding of business data analysis, get overview of creation of data warehouses and OLAP cubes, their usage; 3) get overview of client software of associative logic business data analysis and perform data analysis suing data bases residing on networked SQL database management systems; 4) acquire working knowledge of client side business data analysis software.

Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology
Course
This aim of the course is introduction into socio-cultural anthropology offering fundamental, introductory-level understanding of the development of cultural and social anthropology as a discipline, its main methodological approaches and their relatedness to anthropological theory. The task of the course are covering topics – such as kinship, politics, religion, economics, personhood, body, post-socialism and post-colonialism – are discussed introducing students to terminology, allowing them to build and back their argumentation and navigate anthropological theory. The course is based on building factual ethnographic and theoretical knowledge, using mostly textbooks and processes of memorising. Evaluation in the course is based on checking factual knowledge, precise recognition and formulation of terminology and argumentation. Language of instruction: Latvian and English.
