The objective of the “Sport, Technology and Public Health” study programme is to provide students with the possibility of obtaining academic university education in sports and related sciences by promoting the acquisition of knowledge and skills that lead to the development of competencies for research and professional activities in sports and related sciences in the context of technological development and public health. Astronomy has so far been taught mainly as part of the school physics course, but from the 2022/2023 school year it is also possible to take astronomy as a separate course in secondary school. From the 2020/2021 school year, a team of Latvian pupils is participating in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics. To give pupils, students and teachers the opportunity to develop and deepen their knowledge of astronomy, the "Astronomy for Secondary School: an Advanced Course" – a series of 9x4 lessons on astronomy topics – has been developed: Spherical astronomy Astronomical instruments Elements of celestial mechanics Cosmonautics Solar system Fundamentals of astrophysics Stars Milky Way and other galaxies Cosmology Videos, presentations and links to web resources on relevant topics can be found when participants register for the open access course: ej.uz/astrokurss .
