Theological Antropology: The Theology of P. Tillich
Course
The aim of the course is to promote an understanding of the connection between the insight into God and human consciousness by giving a historical overview of the formation of human self-consciousness at various clearly marked stages, especially under the influence of Christianity. The task of the course is to acquaint with the "turn to subjectivity" of modern theology, setting the human consciousness as the determining theological center. To analyze P. Tillih's theology, which specifically testifies to this turn, by giving a systematic summary of the anthropology of theology. To promote students' understanding of offers contrary to Tillich's theology (K.Barth) and other accents of theological anthropology (S.Hauervas, R.Girard). Get acquainted with and discuss P. Tillich's works "Dynamics of Faith" and "Courage To Be". To prepare reports on a topic of anthropology in theology in Tillih's works. Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Seminar: Rudolf Bultman and Biblical Interpretation in the 20th Century
Course
The aim of the course is to delve into the problems of biblical interpretation (hermeneutics) in the historical-critical tradition. Rudolf Bultman entered 20th century theology with creative and challenging questions about the interpretation of the Bible and the preaching of the Christian message. Bultman's influence has also been significant in Latvia and TF. The aim of the course is to get acquainted with Bultman's familiar and programmatic article "New Testament and Mythology" (Germany in 1943, England in 1953) and to reflect on the most important theological issues of the 20th century: hermeneutics, science and religion, scriptural authority, Christianity message in the modern world, mythology and history, modern methods of exegesis, the significance of the historicity of Jesus' life in Christianity, liberalism, etc. The course consists of introductory lectures and seminars, in which students report and oppose one of the topics indicated in the course. Aim of the course is : to create students ' understanding and ability to use epistemoloģiju as the theory and set of problems associated with the concept of “knowledge” and “founded opinion”. Tasks: 1) to Develop an appropriate understanding of the meaning of such concepts as "reason to believe", "evidence", "conceptual picture", "informed opinion"; 2) to give an adequate model of the epistemology as the evolutionary philosophical discipline, to introduce to its classical ideals and problems in relation to cognition and knowledge; 3) Display a variety of nonclassical epistemology approach today – the abandonment of the subject centred the cognitive tradition, introduce the new understanding of perception, as well as cognition and experience of, languages relationship; 4) present the contemporary conceptions of knowledge, and conceptions of structure of a cognitive justification; 5) Show that in modern conditions epistemology studies are associated with the psychology

The aim of the study course is to provide systemic knowledge about the properties and development of the Earth's top layer (relief and soil), as well as the most important modern research and analysis methods of these system components. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the course especially emphasizes the aspect of the management of the Earth's surface system, which is necessary for the sustainable development of Latvia. Tasks of the study course: - to consider in detail the issues of relief morphometry measurement, imaging and analysis methods; - to learn the tools to be used for the analysis of the terrain data of different origins, to identify the relief forms and to explain the interaction between the relief and the geological structure as well as the sediments under different formation conditions; - to master the connection and interaction between the terrain, sediments, soils and vegetation and to acquaint students with the possibilities, methods and tools for the analysis

The course goal is to form and to develop the basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in French which are necessary for communication in everyday situations as well as in professional context. The course provides basic knowledge in phonetics, the vocabulary and grammar elements that are essential for primary communication focusing on the learners communicative competence (linguistic, socio-cultural and learning competence). All the class activities are based on practical real life situations so that the students can become active participants in learning process. All the lessons have joint approach: 1) reading/listening of the document (text, dialogue), 2) verification of understanding, 3) memorization, 4) communication, 5) consolidation of knowledge. This course corresponds to beginner level (A1 - „Breakthrough”) of the Common European framework for language learning.

Ars moriendi. The Death in the Medieval Livonia
Course
Ars moriendi or the Art of Dying is late medieval social and cultural phenomenon. Ars moriendi was part of the ars vivendi—Art of Living and its aim was to prepare an individual for his or her death. Ars moriendi was intended to prepare an individual for the “good death” and to prevent “bad death”. From the late 14th and early 15th century onward in Western Europe emerged new literary-iconographic genre Ars moriendi, that gave essential advises and instructions how to die “good”. The aim of the course is to ensure the learning of students' knowledge of “Ars moriendi” as a social and cultural phenomenon. The task of this course is to present 1) the sources of ideas, 2) textual and visual media of Ars moriendi and 3) to analyse their content, forms and functions in societies of Europe and Livonia. The instruction language of the course is Latvian.

Aim of the course: to provide academic knowledge and practical skills in IT project management Course tasks: 1. To develop students' understanding of the most important concepts, methods, tools of IT project management. 2. To develop practical skills of creating IT project management documentation. 3. To promote the application of the acquired academic knowledge and practical skills in team work. The theoretical part of the course deals with project management approaches, tools and methods, with special emphasis on the specifics of IT projects. The training is based on the project management standard developed by the Project Management Institute (http://www.pmi.org) and compiled in the "Project Management Book of Knowledge" (PMBOK). In the practical part of the course, using the knowledge gained in the theoretical part of the course, team work skills are developed and basic skills in project management are acquired. The course is offered in: Latvian, English.
