Innovations in physics and technologies
Course
The aim of the course is to enable students to practically use scientific knowledge in the creation of practically useful innovations and technologies, and to provide basic knowledge and skills for their implementation. Tasks of the course are: 1. To raise awareness of the importance of science and innovation in society and the skills needed for their successful implementation; 2. To learn several creative thinking and idea generation methods, as well as to practice their application in science and business; 3. To get acquainted with the business model development methodology and process, to master the formulation of a business idea about the business model process, its evaluation; 4. To learn simple methods of financial evaluation of a company or project, preparation and attraction of a finances and investments; 5. To acquire presentation skills, teamwork skills. Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Immediately after the founding of the Higher School of Latvia (later the University of Latvia) in 1919, the Minister of Education K. Kasparsons asked a group of Latvian doctors to attend to the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine. A subcommittee was set up on 28 August, 1919 for that purpose. It was concluded that senior students would be able to acquire clinical knowledge in hospitals,but there was no no premises, equipment, nor for teaching theoretical subjects for 1st and 2nd year students. Deciding on the necessity to establish FM, the subcommittee took great responsibility. It was decided that lecturers should be recruited from the midst of Latvian specialists, and only in those disciplines where there were no Latvians, specialists were invited from abroad. The core of FM was formed, and E. Zariņš was elected as a Temporary Dean. On September 11, 1919, the first official meeting of the FM Dean's Office took place. Studies course aims to develop computing specialties students' in-depth understanding of the computer and its peripherals structure, operating principles, computer and computer architecture, computer engineering. The task of this course is to cover in detail the components of a computer systems, input and an output operations, processors architecture, command sets, chipsets, bus and its permeability, input and output organization, drive and video subsystems, file systems, modern computer peripheral devices and their operating principles. This course is a continuation of the DatZ1164 course. The language of instruction is Latvian.

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding of the correct attitude towards the work environment and to provide students with basic knowledge about risk factors in the work environment, their impact on the humans, safe working methods, protection and prevention. The course also provides knowledge and understanding of electrical safety, explosion safety, fire safety, high and low-pressure safety, safety equipment, incl. ventilation and air conditioning systems, safe working methods in organizations. During the study course students will acquire the skills to analyze and solve situations in the teamwork.

The aim of the course is to reach B1 level in Spanish and to improve students’ competence acquired in the previous course. During the course students will gain knowledge about the use of vocabulary and grammar forms, as well as some topics related to Spanish and Latin American cultures in A2 level. The communicative approach enhances development and acquirement of different functions of language: speaking, writing, reading and listening skills, as well as learning new grammar forms and strengthening the previous knowledge. Audio, video and other media materials are used in the lessons.

Course provides basic knowledge in accounting. Aim of the course - to give knowledge in the level of understanding and application about elements of accounting system, accounting system of Latvia and general principles of accounting for those studying in program of professional education. To reach the goal, students have to learn theory of classification of entrepreneurial assets and their source classification linkage with accounting balance, accounts, and double record, documentation, inventarisation, and business assets evaluation methods. In pratice students learn basic business transaction record and preparation of period balance.
