Acquisition of Korean Language

The aim of the course is to deepen students' understanding of the linguistic features of the Korean language, that are necessary for language acquisition, as well as to introduce students to foreign language acquisition and teaching methods that can be used for Korean language at various levels. The objectives of the course: 1. to further educate students on the phonetics, morphology and syntax of the Korean language; 2. to familiarize the students with various language acquisition and teaching methods and to show which are the most effective ones for the acquisition of Korean as a foreign language; 3. to assign the students a task to independently design exercises, tasks and lesson plans for Korean language lessons of different level and age group and practice teaching different aspects of the Korean language. Language of instruction: Latvian, Korean.

The aim of the course is to promote students 'understanding of building typology in the context of the basic principles of the formation of functional relationships in space in cultural-historical discourse, to promote students' understanding of the importance of interior constructions and their role in their implementation. Tasks - to acquaint students with the development dynamics of the basic types of building typology in cultural-historical discourse. To provide students with the opportunity to acquire research skills and abilities in identifying theoretical knowledge, factual and visual material on the chosen interior (non-load-bearing) construction topic in the context of building typology, promoting the integration of theoretical knowledge and practice for independent research.
Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Erasmus+ prakse

The students of the Faculty of Humanities can apply for Erasmus+ internship. A student, finding the internship in one of the enterprises abroad (Erasmus zone countries only), can get a scholarship from the University of Latvia. The application procedure: A student should find a place for his/her internship. However, before that a student should discuss the internship with the director of the programme (how the internship can be included into the programme). A student should get an acceptance letter that confirms the readiness of an enterprise to accept the student for the period of the internship. Introduction to teach in higher education

The aim of the course is to offer to the doctoral students and young university faculty opportunities to develop pedagogical competence and promote readiness for academic work at the university. Objectives: 1. During the lectures the students will gain contextual knowledge of current trends in higher education and pedagogy of higher education will deepen the understanding of the teaching in student-centred study process. 2. In the seminars students will learn to analyze and to use a variety of learning and teaching methods and techniques at the study process, will develop skills for purposeful use of the e-environment in the study process. 3. The methodological techniques chosen in the implementation of the study course will contribute to the purposeful identification and evaluation of the experience of doctoral students and, using the dynamics of the group of course participants, mutual learning. The study course is conducted in Latvian and English.

Science and research play an important role in the activities of the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry of the University of Latvia. The faculty has nine research structural units that perform not only in Latvia, but also internationally recognised research and give students the opportunity to gain experience in research by working in real, technologically and internationally competitive laboratories. Research are financed by the University of Latvia, as well as research projects and programmes of the European Union and the Latvian Council of Science, international cooperation projects and other industrial customers, as well as state and local government funds.
