In the Property Law course of the Civil Law studies, the students must gain knowledge on the classification of property, possession, property rights, and the rights of non-owners (servitudes, real charge, pledge, redemption rights, building rights).
In studying this part of the Civil Law, the students must familiarise with part three of the Civil Law – Property Law, Commercial Pledge Law, Land Registry Law. Preferable preliminary knowledge: General Civil Law, Law of Obligations, Civil Procedure.
The study course is implemented in the 3rd and 4th semesters of the 2nd study year, taking into account the knowledge, skills and competencies acquired in other study courses and independently conducting research work for the doctoral thesis, paying special attention to practical case study of the doctoral thesis research subject, approbation of the analysis results by participating in a colloquium, seminar, conference and preparing a scientific article, as well as ensuring the transfer of knowledge in pedagogical work. The study course is implemented with students being practically employed (permanently or internship) in a company or organization. Within the course, its participants also participate in the activities of the doctoral school of the University of Latvia or other equivalent scientific institution, where valuable experience is shared with colleagues (in the form of colloquia), allowing students to present research, share and identify other researchers' experience
Prospective students of the Faculty of History and Philosophy have the opportunity to try out a student’s life, participating in lectures and seminars, meet future lecturers and fellow students, visit study rooms and the library. It is a great opportunity for young people to get an idea of study process, study programmes and its content and academic staff. Representatives of Students’ Council of the Faculty of History and Philosophy introduce prospective students to extracurricular events and various activities. It is also an opportunity to learn more about particular study programmes directly from students and what opportunities provide these programmes.
The study course is implemented in the 1st and 2nd semesters of the 1st study year. The peculiarity of the course goes in line with the best international higher (doctoral level) education and research practice, giving students the opportunity to focus on the progress and deepening of doctoral research already in the 1st year of study, at the same time ensuring regular discussion of research structure, progress, plans, problems, results and perspective with scientific supervisors, consultants, colleagues, experts. This approach allows for the effective application of the so-called `initial inertia` (at the very beginning of studies immediately after the development of the doctoral thesis application), which uses the inner drive and strengthens the personal interest of young researchers both in general scientific research and in their research topics.
Within the course, students also participate as members in the colloquia of the University of Latvia doctoral school or other

The UL Students' Council would like to encourage senior students to become companions of new students taking their first steps in university life. To help new students become more involved in the student life of the University, the Students' Council and the UL Student Services department invite you to apply for the UL Mentor Program. The main role of mentors will be to maintain informal communication with the new student and to help him/her navigate through the day-to-day issues of studying and not get confused by problematic situations throughout the academic year. Mentors will introduce and show the most important things in the life of the University - faculty premises, system of work, main rules, LUIS and e-studies, and the student council system. Most importantly, the student will be introduced to the exciting environment in which they now find themselves. Mentors will get to know their first-year students in the very first days of their studies. Mentoring will guarantee you
