Independently prepared peer-reviewed article on the topic of the dissertation
Course
To successfully complete the doctoral program, doctoral students must publish their research in an internationally recognised peer-reviewed journal. The aim of the course is to ensure the publication and popularisation of scientific research carried out during doctoral studies at the international level. The tasks of the course are to develop doctoral students' skills to systematise and generalize their research in the form of a scientific publication and to evaluate other people's scientific publications in the chosen field of research. The preparation of a publication is an independent work based on personal experience in research and knowledge gained during studies. The scientific article is prepared in consultation with the supervisor and other specialists. Scientific publications are a mandatory promotion requirement.The course is designed in Latvian and English.

Aim of this course - to introduce students with the regulation of the activities of law enforcement agencies/institutions in Latvia and to provide both theoretical knowledge and acquisition of research skills by comparing this regulation with the regulation of the activities of similar institutions in other countries. Task of this course - to provide general knowledge about the role of law enforcement institutions in the protection of human rights and the provision of state functions, preparing students for practical implementation of them. The language of instruction is Latvian.

University of Latvia offers two student hotels for International students: “Prima” and ”Reznas” student hotel. There is a well-developed public transportation and it takes about 20 minutes to reach the city centre, main building of the University of Latvia as well as the Old Town. The minimum length of stay for long term is two months and the Tenant is obligated to pay the rent for first 2 months in order to book the room. "PRIMA" MAZĀ LUBĀNAS IELA 6, Riga, LV-1019 "Prima” student hotel is located in a 9 floor building. The price depends on the number of beds and tenants living in the room. All over the rooms are combined by 2 with shared WC and shower. Continuing bachelor program's focus towards research, the main goal of the master's study program in theology is to prepare students who can: to conduct in-depth research in the sub-disciplines of theology and religion, to present the results of their research, to represent theology and science of science in interdisciplinary academic dialogues and research, to promote tolerance and openness to denominational, religious, and cultural diversity through government, church, and other bodies. The study process is organized in the form of lectures and seminars. In the seminars, students often analyze previously read scientific works (mostly in English), comparing them with the works of other theorists. A special place in the program is given to the students' presentations and research work. Within the framework of separate courses, students have the opportunity to participate in study tours. Later in the lectures, what you see and hear during the visit is analyzed together

The project aims to establish cooperation between the University of Latvia and the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL), towards including PhD students and PhD candidates in study and research work. The project's main results are to support the attraction of doctoral students/degree candidates and foreign academic staff and the implementation of further cooperation. The project envisages the involvement of doctoral students in study or research work, attraction and employment of foreign academic staff, and project management. One of the activities of this project is to support doctoral students and applicants for a scientific degree to promote their academic activities at the University of Latvia, which means that after participating in the project, young researchers are encouraged to continue their academic careers. For their part, the project partners provide an opportunity for future researchers to work on their dissertation and be employed in research

The aim of the course is to give the students basic knowledge on the Latvian social security system, as well as skills to apply the legal provisions regulating the social security law. In order to understand and correctly apply the provisions of the social security law, the students will first be given the opportunity to learn the theoretical knowledge on what is the social security law; what are its specific elements; what is the structure of the social security system in Latvia and the fundamental principles of its operation; what are the most important sources of social security law; what is state social insurance, state social benefits, social services and social aid; how takes place the coordination of social security systems in the European Union. According to the chosen specialization, students work as psychologist in institutions under supervisor. Students regularly work with at least two clients per week during their internship and participate in supervisions 4 hours a week together with a supervisor of the practice.
