Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Learning Spanish as a Foreign Language

The course includes lectures and seminars on learning Spanish as a foreign language. The emphasis is placed on developing the skills and knowledge required for work in training centres as a Spanish language teacher. During the studies, the students not only acquire theoretical knowledge of the language teaching methods, various approaches, but also learn to practically plan the lessons and deliver them in the classroom. The lessons are observed, analysed and evaluated by both the teacher and the students. The attention is paid to the selection of teaching materials, their availability, solution of other various practical situations. An insight into the history of Spanish language teaching in Latvia will help to understand the development of this topic in Latvia. The aim of the course is to provide for students an opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to teach Spanish as a foreign language. The scholarship foundation has been established to promote the development of medical education in Latvia by an Australian Latvian, the University of Latvia (UL) Honorary Doctor, Prof. Dr. med . Jānis Priedkalns in 2010. The scholarship is intended for those University of Latvia (UL) students in master's and doctoral programmes of medicine and residency, who are involved in neurological research, primarily in the field of neuroendocrinology. Number of scholarships: 2 (1 scholarship for master’s programme students, 1 – for a doctoral programme student or a resident in medicine). Scholarship amount: EUR 3 500 per academic yearfor a master’s programme student, EUR 5 000 per academic year for a doctoral programme student or a aresident in medicine. On September 13, 2017, Microsoft Latvia in cooperation with the University of Latvia opened the University of Latvia Innovation Center LUMIC . This is the only Microsoft innovation center in the Baltics. It calls for gathering and cooperation between representatives of various industries, entrepreneurs, ICT professionals, public sector representatives, scientists, students and pupils to jointly create innovative solutions, promote digital transformation in Latvia and strengthen Riga's position as the center of the Baltic region and innovation city. The Innovation Center is accessible to anyone interested in innovation and technology. By developing and promoting various networks, the Innovation Center has become a local innovation platform and business center.

During the course the students will master the basic level Japanese that is equal to A1 level of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The course is designed to master 4 skills of the Japanese language: conversation, listening, reading and writing. The course is based on the Japanese language textbook Genki, level 1, Lessons 1-8.

The course aims to continue to get acquainted with the latest trends in contemporary philosophy and their presence in international philosophical organizations, congresses and conferences, expanding several topics of the course "New Directions in Philosophy in the 21st Century and International Philosophy Organization 1" in cultural philosophy, philosophy of language, phenomenology , ethics, aesthetics, metaphysics and ontology. Doctoral students of Latvian philosophy are directed to participate in world philosophy congresses, studying publications of foreign and Latvian representatives in them and creating their application in international philosophy events, with special emphasis on specialization and inclusion in the research community. To achieve this goal, the following tasks are set: 1) the expenditures and goals of different philosophical societies are analyzed, 2) provides insight into national philosophical traditions and paradigms, 3) provides insight into the organization
