For the second time, the modern and ambitious Academic Center of the University of Latvia in Torņakalns hosted a new discovery, emotion and inspiration event "University of LatviaNew Technologies and Innovations Day", which was held on September 25, 2020 - the week when the University of Latvia celebrated its 101st birthday. The program was full of interesting activities with the main motive "smart university". The event provided an opportunity for students, researchers and graduates to demonstrate their achievements during the year, as well as to create new, innovative ideas.

The innovation center of the University of Latvia, LUMIC, has become the Latvian innovation platform and the center of innovative entrepreneurship during the years. LUMIC realizē vairākas programmas: jaunuzņēmumu (start-up) atbalsta programmu, programmu jaunu digitālo prasmju attīstīšanai, lietotņu un risinājumu izstrādei un programmu digitālās transformācijas ekosistēmas attīstībai. Lai atbalstītu un sekmētu jaunuzņēmumu izaugsmi, LUMIC ir izveidojis sadarbību ar Īrijā bāzēto riska kapitāla fondu Blue Dome Capital Limited par investīciju piesaisti. LUMIC ir vieta, kurā var satikties uzņēmēji, start-up, studenti, IT uzņēmumi un zinātnieki, lai kopīgi radītu jaunas idejas, kas balstītas uz lielajiem datiem un mākslīgo intelektu. Centrs tika izveidots 2017. gadā ar mērķi stiprināt sadarbību starp IKT nozares, zinātnes, nevalstisko organizāciju un publiskā sektora partneriem, lai īstenotu eksportspējīgu IT risinājumu attīstību un digitālo transformāciju Latvijā. As the academic year draws to its close, the UL holds the graduation ceremonies. Traditionally, they take place in the heart of Alma Mater – Aula Magna (the Great Hall), and the Rector of the University presents the diplomas to alumni. Each summer (June and July), in about 40 ceremonies the diplomas of higher education are awarded to several thousand young specialists. Some study programmes conclude with the graduation ceremonies in winter, at the end of the autumn semester, conferring the diplomas to several hundreds of University students. The schedule of graduation ceremonies is published annually in the spring.
