Visual Diagnostics
Course
The students are introduced to the methods of Radiology. The task of this course and lectures is to provide basics of clinical radiologic diagnosis and differential diagnosis with all conventional and modern imaging modalities of the diseases of different organs and organ systems with special emphasis on emergency medicine. At the end of the course student acquires the skills and knowledge in the accurate interpretation of basic radiological exams in the context of the individual patient, with basic understanding of applicability and limitations of various imaging methods. Course provides insight into risks of ionizing radiation and safety issues, as well as risks and indications of contrast media use and their clinical relevance in radiology imaging. Seminars will include demonstration of various imaging modalities, image acquisition and learning of basic image interpretation principles. Curriculum is divided in 2 parts: basic principles of radiology and radiology of organ system

Modern Nonlinear Optics
Course
Modern nonlinear optics explains new findings in the nonlinear response of properties such as frequency, polarization, phase or path of incident light. The goal of the course “Modern Nonlinear Optics” is to provide the contemporary principles of laser-matter interaction at the conditions when the laws of linear optics transform to the intensity-dependent propagation effects leading to nonlinear optical processes and to further broaden the knowledge of the recently investigated processes occurring during the interaction of strong laser radiation with different materials. This course is mostly focused on the fundamental principles developing in modern times. The main peculiarity of this course is the acquaintance of students with the practical aspects of contemporary nonlinear optics and description of the strong field processes, which can be realized in the Latvian laboratories possessing suitable facilities. During the course, the contemporary principles of the nonlinear optics

Environmental Management
Course
In the study course, being realized in the third study year for environmental science specialty students, and, particularly, after their detailed studies of natural science courses in their first two study years of the bachelor program, there is to be planned a set of courses to study socio-ecological systems approach and methodologies, especially, to gain an understanding of environmental governance (EG). The aim of the study course is to create an understanding and to gain basic knowledge about Environmental Governance: 1. as a science sub-branch of interdisciplinary environmental science and also social and economic geography, incl. in the necessary interrelationship with environmental protection practices, namely 2. as the environmental protection branch of the state administration, the development of policy and management practice. Tasks for the content implementation of the course: 1. to learn about the theoretical development of EG - the creation and development of theories
