Aim of this course - to introduce students with the regulation of the activities of law enforcement agencies/institutions in Latvia and to provide both theoretical knowledge and acquisition of research skills by comparing this regulation with the regulation of the activities of similar institutions in other countries. Task of this course - to provide general knowledge about the role of law enforcement institutions in the protection of human rights and the provision of state functions, preparing students for practical implementation of them. The language of instruction is Latvian.

The aim of the course is to facilitate students’ understanding of teachers’ speech standard and the importance of teacher's voice, and to provide knowledge about the sounds and phonetic aspects of the German language. Course objectives: 1) to improve language competence and pronunciation through language sound pronunciation exercises and learning the aspects influencing pronunciation in German; 2) to promote students’ understanding about the importance of pronunciation, differences between various dialects, and the difference between spelling and pronunciation in German.

The purpose of this course is to offers students more in-depth knowledge about administrative law, focusing on practical or theoretical issues that are not clear, as well as on issues which relate to newly adopted normative regulations or legal norms which have not been reviewed in the BA programme. Lectures are discussions about timely issues, reviewing that which is already known and then continuing on with a more in-depth look at the relevant issues. Case files and court practice will be brought to bear whenever possible, thus deepening the understanding of students about specific aspects of administrative law and administrative procedure.

Problems with the Implementation of Property Rights

Students of the Problems in Exercising Ownership Rights course will have to obtain knowledge on newest changes (during the last year) in the legal framework in relation to ownership rights, rights to another person's item (servitutes, real charges, pledge, option to purchase, construction rights); on judgements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in relation to ownership rights analysing Article 1 of the First Protocol of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Judgements of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia evaluating compliance of separate regulatory enactments to Article 105 of the Constitution. The students will have to obtain a comprehensive idea on draft laws, practice of application of effective laws and other regulatory enactments and formation of judicature, scientific publications dedicated to these topics. Japanese for beginners is aimed at the students whose specialization is not the Japanese language. During the course the students will master the basic level Japanese that is equal to A2 level of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and is designed as a continuation of the course Japanese Language A1. The course is designed to master 4 skills of the Japanese language: conversation, listening, reading and writing. The course is based on the Japanese language textbook Genki, level 1, Lessons 9-12.

The course is one of the modules of a program “Teaching and learning for competence development” that is grounded in research-based ideas and practice. The course is intended for pedagogues representing different subject areas in comprehensive education. During course lessons, participants will have a chance to analyse and model different teaching situations, lesson plan examples that enable students to learn and use skills and strategies; to engage in discussion about best practices on teaching skills to students. In between lessons there will be an individual assignment.
