The aim of the course is to enable students to develop an understanding of the essence, specifics, basic issues of history and theory of children's and youth literature and the role of literature in the process of personal development. The objectives of the study course 1. To improve the understanding of the value system, problems, types, genres (literary fairy tales, fantasy, science fiction), artistic system, tendencies of Latvian and foreign children's and youth literature classics and the most brilliant works of contemporary writers. 2. To develop skills for analyzing and evaluating the content, form, relevance to the age of the reader, illustrations and design of literary works. 3. To see and learn to evaluate opportunities, problems and their solutions related to the study of children's literature at school.
The language of instruction is Latvian.

The aim of the study course is to promote students' understanding of the safe and responsible use of office information and communication technologies by ensuring the efficiency and productivity of their chosen future professional activities. Tasks of the course: • to introduce the safe and responsible use of modern equipment of the modern office, taking into account the requirements of ergonomics and normative acts, as well as harming their health; • to develop the skills of office applications and Internet services and online information processing and collaboration tools in accordance with the professional needs of at least the basic level of European computer driver licence; • provide insights into specific (planned for professional) related applications; • create an understanding and ability to choose the right software and device for the task you are performing. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the most important aspects of international economics and international business, their historical development, influencing factors and consequences. The objectives of the course are: - to examine the international movement of goods, services, labor and capital, the main international organizations and their impact on globalization processes in the world; - pay particular attention to international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, the IMF, NATO, the UN, the OECD and others; - to analyze global economic integration processes and to describe the world's major trading blocs, customs unions and common markets. The course also analyzes the European Union as the highest form of economic integration, focusing on the most important aspects of its functioning. The languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Men and Women in Society
Course
The aim of the course is to address the specifics of gender research and its basic concept of gender particularly in Latvia and other post-socialist countries within the framework of broader interdisciplinary research. This course is practically orientated and its tasks are following: first offering theoretical readings during the course and a follow-up list of literature to read after these. It is based on the applied research experiences of students and encourages them to apply their theoretical knowledge in various applied tasks and contexts: mini-interviews, role-playing (politicians, NGO activists, policy advisers), encouraging thinking and creativity beyond mere production of academic texts and introducing them to different means of expressing anthropological knowledge. Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

The aim of the course work is to strengthen students' knowledge about the organization of internal monitoring of the work environment within the framework of the research. Course objectives: - Based on the knowledge gained in the course, perform a literature analysis on the procedure for organizing the internal monitoring of the working environment in the company of the chosen industry, - Based on the methods of work environment risk factors learned in the course, perform a risk analysis and evaluate the involvement of employees. for prevention - perform effective planning of internal monitoring of the work environment, incl. developing a plan for improving the quality of the working environment, promoting an effective cooperation model between the employer and the employee, cooperation with the representatives of the employee and improvements in the safety of the working environment in the organization. The course is delivered in Spanish and Latvian. The course provides theoretical knowledge and practical experience in two types of interpretation: consecutive and simultaneous. Within the course, the students learn translation methods and strategies, as well as acquire practical experience and norms of professional ethics and behaviour. The source language is mostly Spanish, but the target languages is Latvian. The aim of the course is to provide an opportunity to learn specific translation methods and techniques that are used in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. Main objectives of the course: • to develop a comprehensive understanding of the specifics of interpreting and its types; • to provide in-depth theoretical knowledge of the process and methodology of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting; • to acquire practical skills in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. Language of instruction: Spanish and Latvian.

Diachronic Perspective on the Word and the History of Lexicography

The course aims at developing a deeper understanding of the concept “word” and of its relevance in communication. While elaborating on and discussing the tendencies in the modern global discourses, the course aids students in developing language awareness, i.e. the awareness of the features of the word as a central nominating unit in the language (from interlingual viewpoint). The objective of the course is set to consider the concept 'word' in the broadest possible context of linguistic interpretations and extra-linguistic settings. These and other thematically related questions are discussed in seminars, which stimulate the understanding of vocabulary’s diachronic variability and allow for the exploration of its written sources - dictionaries, which are essential products in the field of humanities as well as practical tools in professional settings. Business Intelligence (BI) combines business analytics, data mining, data visualization, data tools and infrastructure, and best practices to help organizations make data-driven decisions. The aim of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the goals of business intelligence, as well as practical skills in using the most popular business intelligence tools. Tasks: 1) to find out the main components, concepts and project life cycle of business intelligence; 2) perform processing and transformations of various data formats with the selected business intelligence tools; 3) to realize the visualization of different combinations of categorical, discrete, continuous and geospatial data; 4) learn data analysis expressions. Language of instruction is either Latvian or English.

In 1965 an American scientist of Azerbaijan descent Lotfi Zadeh introduced a new important mathematical concept „Fuzzy Set” and started to develop the corresponding theory. Starting with seventies of the last century the theory of fuzzy sets and its applications was paid a special attention both from the people working in theoretical fields of mathematics and from specialists using mathematical methods in other fields of science (engineering, economy, social processes, medicine, etc.). The aim of this course is to give a student sufficient knowledge about the essential aspects of theory of fuzzy sets and fuzzy structures in order that he/she can continue either developing theoretical aspects of the theory or applying them in other fields of science.
