Maria Wasna, Professor of Psychology, Honorary Doctor of the University of Latvia (1930 – 2019), contributed to the budding culture of philanthropy in Latvia after the restoration of independence. Prof. Wasna was the Rector of the University of Munster (1990–1994). During that period, jointly with Munster Baltic Support Society (Germany), cooperation with the Baltic universities, including the University of Latvia, was expanded. M.Wasna established Munster University Prize for the University of Latvia students and academic staff. The purpose of the prize was to raise the prestige of students’ scientific work, to facilitate scientific cooperation between the universities, scientific institutions and researchers of Germany and to promote the research of the historic, cultural and linguistic ties between Germany and Latvia. In 2004 , the moot court competition was officially named after Professor Kārlis Dišlers . The competition was won by University of Latvia Faculty of Law students Kristaps Bērziņš and Reinis Bērziņš . The Best Oralist award was given to Ieva Bērziņa . Information about the students' achievements was published in the journal Jurista Vārds on December 21, 2004, Issue No. 49 (354) .
The professional master's study programme “Working Environment Protection and Expertise” is part of the study field “Internal Security and Civil Protection” of the University of Latvia (UL). Studies in the field of labour protection at the University of Latvia are an integral part of the natural sciences, – a labour protection specialist must be knowledgeable about the latest achievements in science and technology related to employee health and safety, able to assess working environment risks and competently develop preventive and protection measures based on the experience of Latvia and other EU Member States. Therefore, by mastering this study programme, students will be able to integrate into the changing labour market and successfully adapt to change. The purpose of the course: is to provide students with skills in solving legal issues, thus developing the skills and legal thinking necessary for the work of a lawyer.
Course tasks:
1) learn the basics of legal counseling
2) to acquire practical skills by providing legal assistance under the guidance of qualified lawyers within the framework of the Legal Practice and Assistance Center (Center), thereby applying theoretical knowledge in practice.
3) provide legal opinions or consultations to the cooperation partners of the Center, participate in the preparation of studies, reports, legal opinions, study of draft laws and other legal documents.
This course offers insights in the practical application of audiovisual methodologies in anthropology and sociology. The participants are introduced in some of the basic visual and cultural anthropological approaches. Theoretical implications of the use of video, photography and new media to depict social and cultural realities shall be discussed. Corporeal and experiential forms of ethnographic knowledge production will be included. Selected ethnographic examples – videos, video interviews, art works, performances– are analyzed and interpreted as ‘framing

The course tasks:
1) to acquire theoretical aspects of memory culture;
2) to understand the specific of memory culture in Eastern Europe (the Baltic States, Germany, Poland, Belarus and Ukraine);
3) to identify the WW II memorial sites in Riga and participate in digital exhibition online.
The course is implemented in cooperation with students of the Gottingen University. As a part of the course, Latvian students will prepare digital photo images of World War II memorial sites in Riga (5 images of 1 site for each student). From these images 3D models of monuments will be produced for an online exhibition, supplementing the images with annotations in English (volume: up to 3000 characters).
The language of instruction is English.

Internship I (6 c.p.)
Internship presumes to link the obtained knowledge with practical experience, to study and to evaluate theoretically known models in real entrepreneurship.
Internship II (8.c.p.)
Its aim is to fortify the obtained theoretical knowledge. During the internship the students have the opportunity to grasp the concept of a specific entrepreneurship related with international business, to understand the specificity of activities and professional attachment.
Internship III (* c.p.)
The aim of internship is to confirm student ability to use the theoretical knowledge in actual entrepreneurship and to promote the preparation of a qualified, creative, and professional manager. During the internship (in an enterprise or an institution related to international business in Latvia or abroad) the student prepares the obtained information as an Internship Report which must be defended in front of a commission.
