The aim of the course is to educate students in application of different supervision forms (individual, group, collegial supervision) in social work practice, and to develop necessary skills. During the practice students are in the role of supervisee or supervisor, which depends from the assigned task. In the role of a supervisee student can develop understanding about the content and process of supevision. The obtained knowledge helps to develop skills, which are necessary for supervisor’s role. As a supervisee student participates in individual supervision, where s/he discusses his/her social work practice and participates in group supervision. As a supervisor student offers individual and group supervision to social work specialists. Important part of the practice assignments is the collegial supervision, in which students develop group work skills and render mutual support. Practice encourages the development of self-reflection and analytical ability.
The aim of the course is to provide the students with basic knowledge of the Persian language. The students acquire the Arabic-Persian alphabet and phonetics paying special attention to the sounds which do not exist in Latvian. The students learn the basics of Persian grammar focusing on the verbs “būden” and “dāšten”. The students learn the skills to form simple sentences with these verbs. The course develops all four language skills: writing, reading, speaking and listening.
“Russian for Daily Communication Purposes” is a short-term Russian as a foreign language course (3 weeks long) aimed at Russian language competence development offered to the students of National Police Academy of Japan. The content of the course, which has been developed with regard to the requirements of the Japanese party, is aimed for the students whose knowledge of the Russian language corresponds to the pre-intermediate level (A2). The aim of the course is to develop and improve the students’ ability to communicate in Russian in daily and socio-cultural spheres of life. The programme of the course includes situations connected with the students’ professional sphere. The course also helps develop the students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, improve their vocabulary, advance their knowledge of Russian grammar, develop and enhance their ability to use the acquired lexis and grammar structures in order to reach the intended goals. Elizabete Akmentiņa (1920–2014) was born in Kārsava district on 27 June 1920. In the aftermath of the World War II, 1949, herself and her family were deported to the Amur region of Siberia. After returning in 1957, she worked at a collective farm all her life. Support On 11 September 2007, she transferred her real estate "Apiņu mājas"in Malnava, Kārsava municipality, to the University of Latvia, and also gifted to the university her certificates of compensation and privatization. Her donation in the 2009/2010academic year enabled seven UL students to receive the scholarship "Ceļamaize 2009" ("Bread for the journey 2009"). The aim of the course is to deepen their knowledge on different traditional cultural practices on the Korean peninsula, as well as to introduce students to various ways of teaching traditional Korean culture to different age groups.
The objectives of the course:
1. to deepen the students’ understanding of the various elements influencing Korean traditional culture at different periods of time;
2. to deepen the students’ understanding of Korea's ancient traditions, celebrations and their expressions in art, crafts, architecture and clothing;
3. to introduce students to various ways and materials regarding teaching Korean culture to foreign language students and how to incorporate materials on Korean culture in Korean language lesson plans.
Languages of instruction: Korean and Latvian/English.
The course offers a comprehensive introduction to and understanding of the concepts of inclusive society, plain and easy languages, and aims to equip students with the skills required to produce/translate/adapt/use texts in Easy Latvian in professional communication, ensuring accessibility of information to people with permanent or temporary reading disabilities.
The course especially aims to cater to the needs of the students of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education Sciences and Psychology, Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, Faculty of Humanities as well as any other professionals whose work not only allows but also provides for communication with easy language users.
Course objectives:
1. to introduce students to different concepts of inclusive society and inclusive language, international experience in these issues, to explain and understand the terminology of the field;

The Faculty of Theology offers a broad and comprehensive education in humanities, profound understanding of religion in the context of culture. Theology studies yield basic understanding of the views formed in Christianity and various other religions (Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.), and the ensuing history, scriptures, practices, and the role of religion in the processes of contemporary society. Moreover, the studies provide an opportunity to acquire the skills required for research of religious processes. Students are offered a wide range of opportunities to participate in the international student exchange programme Erasmus +. The Faculty of Theology, University of Latvia was founded on February 4, 1920, renewed in 1990 and it is currently the only academic institution in Latvia that offers the opportunity to obtain bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in all fields of theology and religious research in internationally accredited study programs. Practice base in Kolka Since 1991, the Faculty of Biology of the UL has owned the practice base, the former "Old School" of Kolka. Summer internships take place here every year from the end of June to July. The opportunities offered by it are often used by the faculty's undergraduate, master's and doctoral students, as well as the teaching staff of the faculty, to conduct their scientific research. Kolka is an excellent place to observe spring and autumn bird migrations. Right next to it is the Irbe strait, which is both one of the largest wintering places for birds in the Baltic Sea and attractive place with a great variety of fish. Along with the border of Kolka, Slītere National Park begins, which is one of the largest and most diverse protected areas in Latvia. Seminars organised by the faculty have been held here several times. The practice base premises are also sometimes used by students and teaching staff of other faculties.
