Civic participation, active engagement, responsibility for the sustainable development of the local community and the world is a hallmark of contemporary education. The study course addresses education for sustainable development by raising awareness of sustainable development and sustainable cultural environment of education. It focuses on raising awareness of the potential of education for a just, peaceful and ecologically balanced society, promoting individual and collective understanding and competence for sustainable development, and seeking solutions to sustainability challenges in the local community, the Baltic Sea region and the world. European Literature Prose Genres: Ancient Greek and Roman Basis
Course
The aim of the course - basing on the ancient Greek and Roman literary tradition, to develop an in-depth understanding of the variety of prose genres and development processes in the European literary space, as well as, on the basis of theoretical material and practical research works, to introduce students to general interaction processes of prose and poetry texts, the continuity of the development of literature and the engagement of literary processes at different levels of text formation. The course pays special attention to the development and branching of the novel genre, as well as to literary-theoretical problems concerning the aspects of genre fusion and overlapping from the position of cultural history. Chemistry for Environmental and Earth Sciences
Course
The aim of the course to provide students with an opportunity to obtain basic knowledge of chemical structure of substances, as well as key concepts of general chemistry, and illustrate the role of chemistry in the living environment, industry and the protection of the environment. Using lectures, laboratory work and seminar classes, the course provides an overview of the basic concepts of chemistry, starting with the structure of atoms and the properties of atoms, continuing with the chemical bond in compounds. The topics of physical chemistry on reaction rate, chemical equilibrium and thermodynamics, electrochemical processes are discussed below. More insight is given into acid-base equilibria in aqueous solutions. The second part of the course focuses on chemistry related to the geosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere, also looking at the chemical aspects of soil, water and air pollution. An overview of the chemistry of elements and their distribution in nature is also provided

The aim of the practice is to provide an opportunity to conduct in-depth research of a social problem and to develop a basic understanding of the reduction of social problems at different levels of social work practice. Practice tasks: 1. To analyze a social problem in the practice institution chosen by the student. 2. Using basic research methods (e.g., document analysis, statistical data analysis, interview, survey, case study, observation), the study of a social problem should include the analysis of such aspects as: (a) social problem theory and research; b) experience in reducing and solving a social problem; c) description of the social services system in reducing the social problem in Latvia from the point of view of social work theories (for example, analysis of political documents, SWOT analysis, types of social services in reducing a specific social problem, whether services are change-oriented or normalization, individual or environment, missing services, development

Chinese Language and Communication Culture II
Course
The aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to learn to speak Chinese fluently on various topics while continuing grammar learning, as well as to develop listening, reading and writing skills up to Level B1, taking into account the most important features of verbal and non-verbal communication adopted in Chinese culture and the most significant public prohibitions, as well as looking at the peculiarities of the Chinese language in the linguistic aspect in comparison with the Indo-European languages. The tasks of the course are: 1) To continue to learn Chinese phonetics, correct speech and spelling; 2) To continue acquaintance with the morphology and syntax of the Mandarin Chinese language; 3) To broaden the vocabulary of the most necessary Chinese words (at least 500 words) and phrases (on the mentioned topics) for daily communication; 4) To give a further acquaintance with the norms of polite verbal and non-verbal communication in various communicative

During the study course the future teachers will acquire knowledge about the conceptual key concepts of diversity and multiculturalism, the diversity of cultures and social dynamics – prejudices, stereotypes, and attitudes. They will acquire different pedagogical approaches for implementing the diversity education and multicultural learning process and learners’ sustainable development. Reflecting independently on their own pedagogical activity and the dynamics of professional development, students will explore the cultural component of the diversity competence in teacher’s pedagogical work and communication as well as the aspects of inclusive education in the context of globalization processes and the efficiency provisions of ensuring quality and resources in the environment of inclusive education. The aim of the course is to provide an opportunity for master's students to continue learning the Japanese language and communication culture in accordance with the requirements of the B2-C1 language level in the context of the Japanese cultural environment, examining the peculiarities of the Japanese language in the linguistic aspect compared to Indo-European languages, as well as taking into account the specificities of verbal and non-verbal communication accepted in Japanese culture, as well as etiquette and social prohibitions.
