ESF project No. 2013/0015/1DP/1.1.1.2.0/13/APIA/VIAA/010 Within the framework of the project, a new scientific group will be established at the ISSP UL with the general aim of attracting additional human resources 6 PLE. The group consists of 3 young scientists, 1 doctoral student, 1 foreign scientist and 1 scientist. The project’s scientific study aims at research of innovative multifunctional materials for transparent electronics and photonics, corresponding to the national science axis “Innovative Materials and Technologies”. The intended materials are metallic nanowires, transparent semiconductors and unleaded segnetoelectrics. The results will be published in at least ten original scientific articles in SCI journals and one new method will be developed which will allow to derive material model parameters from x-ray absorption spectra. Project’s funding is 497990.91 EUR, including ESF funding in the amount of 448837.80 EUR (90.13%). The place of project implementation is ISSP

In metallurgy, liquid metal stirring is necessary to homogenize the temperature and composition. A new two rotating cylinder permanent magnet system for liquid metal stirring will be described. It has low energy consumption and large variety of possible flows compared to existing methods. The developed system was first elaborated and tested using GaInSn eutectic alloy, followed by liquid aluminium. The experimental equipment is modeled to produce results that are scalable on an industrial scale for small and medium sized aluminum furnaces. The department plans, manages and coordinates the University of Latvia (UL) communication and marketing activities, promotes technology transfer and innovation. The Faculty of Biology is one of the 13 faculties of the University of Latvia. It offers higher academic education in biology in bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes, as well as professional training in elementary school chemistry and high school biology teacher programmes. 85 years have passed since the beginning of the preparation of biologists at the University.
