Practical Latvian for International Students I

The aim of the course is to help the learners function in elementary social situations, promote the acquisition of lexis and grammar necessary for everyday communication, and form a firm basis for further communication in the Latvian language in the study process and professional activities. The tasks of the course are as follows: 1) to help the learners gain knowledge of the grammar, vocabulary, phonology and syntax of the Latvian language; 2) to develop basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The course has been developed in accordance with the A1 level requirements of the content specifications set by the European Council. The course is taught in Latvian.

The course provides the first insight into the basic principles of the human body's functioning. During seminars and practice sessions, students will learn the principles of managing the functions of the body. Purpose of the course: to provide knowledge of the physiological functions and control functions of the human mechanisms at the level of cells, tissues and organs, as well as to gain insight into complex systems. Course assignment: to understand the principles of vegetative, somatic, sensory and psychic functions. The course is implemented in English.

Course objectives: to get acquainted with the principles of artificial intelligence in data processing, to learn inferential statistical tests, to interpret the results of statistical test analysis, to calculate the required sample size, to use statistical effect size calculations, to use rmarkdown syntax in R program, to use R packages ggplot2, dplyr, epiR, flextable, pwr, gtsummary, kableExtra for processing, transformation, selection and visualization of data to prepare doctoral students for the development of publications and research. Prerequisite knowledge required for the acquisition of the course corresponds to the study programme admission requirements and the general knowledge, slills and competences obtained at the previous level of education. Language of course teaching - Latvian, English.

Infectology and dermatovenerology for dental students

In the daily practice of dentists, various infectious and dermatovenerological diseases may be encountered, as well as the risks they pose to patients and/or staff. The course gives the dental student an understanding of the most common infections of skin and mucous membranes, as well as sexually transmitted diseases, which will allow to orient and act in a clinical situation, and, if necessary, attract the assistance of specialists in these disciplines in a timely manner. The aim of the study course is to provide basic knowledge of common infectious diseases of skin, oral mucous membranes and sexually transmitted diseases, which could impact the oral health or put dental team under some risk for infection. Study course assignments: 1.
