Interest-related education program ''Smarty laboratory'' is designed for school children in 4th to 5th grade. During the classes, students will have a chance to improve their knowledge and skills through taking a look at the complex content of mathematics, science and programming in an integrative way. Students will conduct experiments and research, learn how to problem-solve, create simple algorithms and modelling in order to describe phenomenon, processes, situations in sciences, mathematics and programming. Students creativity will also be fostered.

Excellence scholarship for those first-year bachelor’s programme students in all fields of science at the University of Latvia (UL), whose origins are in Latgale. The scholarship was founded in 2019 on the initiative of the American Latvian Peter Aloizs Ragaušs, promoting the growth of young people from his native region. The scholarship is intended for the UL first-year bachelor’s programme students who have graduated from secondary school with excellent results and have shown high achievements in both studies and extracurricularactivities, and whose origin can be found in Latgale – the student himself/herself or at least one of his parents has officially declared their place of residence in Latgale. Chemist is a highly sought-after profession and it is an occupation for life! Graduates of the programme receive a diploma recognized in Europe, confirmed by the quality label “Eurobachelor in Chemistry” awarded by the European Chemistry Thematic Network Association (ECTNA). In the second year, students can prove themselves and apply their knowledge by participating in research groups of faculty or institutes, acquiring the skills required in future employment: organic synthesis, modern instrumental analysis, food chemistry, etc. Immediately after studies, a chemist can start working and/or continue studies to obtain a master's degree at the University of Latvia or abroad.

In May 2005, Dean emer. Ivars Gaide and Rev. Dr. Anita Gaide from Canada arranged a course of lectures at the UL Faculty of Theology, enabling students gain an insight into the Western world outlook and engage in international processes. The lectures were delivered by Prof. Taivāns from the University of Toronto. Support In 2011, the patrons supported the scholarship "Ceļamaize"(“Bread for the journey”) by donating EUR 603. They donated privately toward restoration of the organ at the UL Big Hall in 2013 and 2014 (in memory of Ilmārs Zilāns). We greatly appreciate the generous support to education and development!
