The aim of the study course is to promote students' understanding of the efficient, secure and responsible use of information technology in data acquisition, processing, visualization and publication, ensuring the increase of efficiency and productivity of studies, research and their chosen future professional activities. Tasks of the study course: • to develop in-depth skills in the acquisition, exchange, presentation and publication of office applications, Internet services and online information processing and collaboration tools required for study, research and further professional activities; • to acquaint with the applications of data acquisition, processing, analysis and visualization, which are necessary in the scientific and professional work of a mathematician; • Provide insight into customizing office applications and creating new functionality through programming capabilities to streamline and automate data processing and exchange. The course is implemented in Latvian.

Turkish Language Consecutive Interpreting II
Course
The aim of the course is to give students the opportunity to supplement their knowledge and develop skills in consecutive oral interpretation. By translating materials from Latvian to Turkish and vice versa, existing oral translation skills will be improved and listening skills will be developed, as well as note-taking skills. The course focuses on public speaking and presentation skills, especially, proper body language, breathing techniques and stress management. The objectives of the course are: 1) to further develop consecutive interpreting skills; 2) to supplement knowledge about the process and methods of consecutive interpreting; 3) to continue to learn public speaking and presentation methods, which are necessary for an interpreter; 4) to learn stress management methods during public speaking. The course is taught in Latvian, English and Turkish.

General Biology. Introduction to Botany
Course
The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge of the phylogeny, anatomy and morphology, ecology and systematics of fungi, algae and embryophytes, as well as the diversity of plant species and communities. Course Tasks: • to provide knowledge about the anatomical and morphological structure, functions and ecology of fungi, algae and embryophytes, • to develop an understanding of the life cycle of embryophytes and the evolutionary development of key features, • to provide knowledge about vegetation, its units, as well as about basic issues of flora and vegetation protection. To achieve the goal, in lectures, laboratories and practical work, student learn about the diversity, morphology and evolutionary development over time of organism groups in botany, and also gain knowledge of plant community structure and composition, and vegetation description and classification. The language of instruction is Latvian.

Introduction in Performative Practices
Course
The purpose of the course is to provide an introduction to rapidly growing field of interdisciplinary performance studies: performance, performance art and performativity in various fields. The performance is analyzed both in the context of culture and society, paying a close attention to subjects such as performance and identity, performance and media, performance and politics, performance as research, as well as performance within the context of the development of new technologies. Course tasks: 1) to provide knowledge of interdisciplinary aspects of peformance, their functionality in the society and the arts; 2) to raise awareness of interactive communication elements and persuasion techniques in context of the topics of the course; 3) developing the critical thinking of students; 4) developing skills of the analysis of peformative texts and the use of performative methods in research and presenting it's results. The language of course - Latvian and English.

The aim of the study course is to provide basic knowledge and skills in areas related to propagation of light, interaction of light with matter and phenomena demonstrating the nature of light. The course also is aimed at knowledge how the nature of light is used in various optical devices.
The objectives of the study course are the following:
  • to provide knowledge about the nature and phenomena of light and how it is used in various optical devices;
  • to introduce students to practical experiments demonstrating the nature of light;
  • to facilitate the understanding of how light is used in nature and technology.

Policy process in Latvia
Course
Scholars studying the transformation of East European political regimes have often believed that either competitive elitism or democratic pluralism will take root across the region. However, the empirical reality turns out much more nuanced. The main aim of this course is to scrutinize the multifaceted process of edcision making in Latvia after 1991 on the basis of different theoretical models. This course will identify most important political actors, resources at their disposal and thei mutual interaction in order to offer students a unique chance to form their own opinion about a model of democracy that fits the Latvian situation best. Tasks of this course: * deepening the knowledge about Latvia's political system; * broadening the understanding of theoretical frameworks for analyzing Latvia's democracy. Language of instruction is Latvian.

The Bachelor's thesis is a student’s independent creative research work, the aim of which is to promote the acquisition of philological thought, to develop research skills and prepare for the independent research in linguistics and/or literary studies (History of foreign literature, Germanic linguistics, Romance linguistics, Slavic linguistics, Finno-Ugric linguistics, or Classical philology). Objectives: 1. to develop research skills in linguistics / literary studies in a chosen sub-branch; 2. to develop the use of appropriate research methods in a chosen sub-branch in linguistics / literary studies; 3.to improve skills in working with theoretical literature and deepen knowledge of necessary terminology; The Bachelor's thesis is written in Latvian, English or the language of the profiling sub-program (French, Russian, German, Estonian).

Course
The aim of the course is to enable students to develop an understanding of the history and theory of children's and youth literature (types (poetry, prose, drama), genres, value system, relevance to the interests and needs of children and youth). The objectives of the study course 1. To improve the understanding of the value system, problems, types, genres (poetry, childhood memories, real-life stories, novels), artistic system and trends of Latvian and foreign children's and youth literature classics and the most notable contemporary writers. 2. To develop skills to analyze and evaluate the content, form, relevance to the age of the reader, illustrations and design of literary works. 3. To see and learn to evaluate opportunities, problems and solutions related to the study of children's and youth literature at school.

Cultural Studies II
Course
The aim of this course is to give students an understanding of distinctive features of European and Slavonic culture. The course covers different cultural processes which have had influence on European culture. Special consideration is given to the particularity of European culture. The basis is made of historical, philosophical, religious and literary works, as well as art works, which being interpreted contribute to drawing of conclusions with regard to distinctions of the development of European culture. Course tasks: 1. To establish a basic knowledge system of Europe, which includes the world scene model, ethical and aesthetic values, verbal and non-verbal norms of public and cultural behaviour; 2. To present cultural, historical and political context; 3. With particular emphasis on the creation of a cultural entity. Language of instruction is Russian.
