The course objectives are to teach students the basics of the German language as a means of a cross-cultural communication and to develop students' interaction skills, learning vocabulary and phrases, grammar and grammatical structures, to perceive and to understand written texts (reading comprehension), to be able to understand spoken questions, short dialogues and oral utterances (listening comprehension), as well to communicate orally (oral communication skills) and in writing (written communication skills) with German speaking students, teachers, friends, colleagues, customers and so on in everyday, study, practice and working situations , selecting the right words, phrases and constructions, according to the situation, country or province.

The course is offered to the students who are interested in continuing their Swedish language studies and wish to enrich their vocabulary, to improve their pronunciation and intonation and to expand their knowledge of grammatical categories and rules. A special attention is paid to the development of the students' communication and writing skills.

The goal of the course is to introduce global, regional and local environmental problems, their causes and prevention options. The course develops an understanding of the principles of the existence and functioning of the environment as a complex system. The nature of the effects of environmental pollution, substances and energy life cycles is considered. Students are introduced to the basic principles of sustainable development, research methods in environmental science. Course tasks: 1) to provide knowledge about the field of environmental science and its sustainable development; 2) to develop an understanding of the interrelationships between the life cycle of natural resources and environmental pollution; 3) to develop skills to critically analyze the relationship between the lifestyle and environmental problems of society and individuals; 4) to develop the competence to take responsibility for the sustainable development of the environment. The course is a continuation of the course “Russian as a Foreign Language: Level B1, Part 1”. The aim of the course is to develop and improve students’ communication skills in Russian in everyday, sociocultural and educational spheres. The course activates the students’ skills in speaking, reading, listening and writing; moreover, the course introduces the students to new lexical units, as well as develops the knowledge of the Russian grammar, improves the skills to use the mastered grammatical structures, expressing various intents; finally, the course acquaints the students with topical information about Russia. The course consists of six topics. Mastering of a topic includes the work with the vocabulary and grammar, as well as written and spoken (audio and video) texts ; the topic finishes with a discussion. The topics selected for the course offer an opportunity to repeat, consolidate and activate the mastered skills and knowledge, as well as to go back to the difficulties

The course aims at: 1. consolidating and strengthening the students' linguistic competence in preparation for research work. 2. enhancing students' knowledge of the Latvian language style, specifically, the scientific style. 3. developing scientific writing and speaking skills required to choose appropriate means of expression (terms, foreign words) based on students' scientific work experience (term papers, bachelor's thesis, etc.) and materials discussed during the course (research articles, vocabulary, stylistic and spelling exercises). 4. advancing Latvian language skills by including proper names (capitalization, use of nouns), abbreviations, acronyms (list of abbreviations and acronyms available on the State Language Centre website), citations and references in written scientific texts. 5. enabling students to avoid verbiage, style ambiguity and inaccuracy, to formulate their ideas clearly, using scientific vocabulary (terms and foreign words), the most effective means

The goal of this course in to get acquainted with technologies of business intelligence data analysis (Business Intelligence – BI) and software for business data analysis. During this course students will acquire knowledge of different methods of business data analysis, carry out prognosis of business processes, optimization and imitational modelling. During this course students will analyse business and management information system data bases. Students will get acquainted with data warehousing, creation of OLAP cubes and their usage. Students will carry out data analysis using data bases which reside on networked SQL data base management systems using client side data analysis software. The course is designed to learn the basics of the Portuguese language. Students will get acquainted with the phonetic system of the Portuguese language, acquire the necessary knowledge of grammar and cultural competence, as well as create a vocabulary corresponding to the A1 level. During the course students will learn to communicate in the following situations: talk about themselves, introduce themselves and others, tell about their home, move around the city and talk about everyday life. The communicative approach provides the foundation for the acquisition and development of a variety of language skills and functions, including listening and reading, comprehension skills, the use of expressions and grammar, written and spoken expression.
