Latvian Language for International Doctoral Students

The beginner Latvian language course for the international doctoral students aims at developing their perception of the Latvian language, gradually developing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills; at building the communicative and intercultural competence for further application of the acquired knowledge of Latvian in the study process. The objectives of the study course: - to develop basic knowledge of the Latvian language system and usage functions; - to create and supplement the daily vocabulary; - to develop the skills to take part in everyday communication. The course syllabus has been designed to help the students function in elementary social and study situations, promote the acquisition of new lexis and grammar necessary for everyday communication, and form a firm basis for further communication in Latvian. The course has been developed in accordance with the A1 level requirements of the content specifications set by the European Council. The course is intended

The aim of the study course is to develop students' professional receptive language skills and improve their speaking and writing skills. Study course tasks: 1) to acquire medical terminology, 2) to ask professional accurately formulated questions, 3) to present research materials and analyze statistical data, 4) to acquire English at B1 level that opens up an opportunity to work in an international environment. The course is implemented in English.

Faculty of Theology students have the opportunity to spend time in the student room or “the bunker” before, after, and between lectures. Here students have the opportunity to do homework individually or together, discuss various topics over a cup of warm tea, etc. Facts and rules: 1. The bunker is available to all Faculty of Theology students. The list of students who have access to the bunker is updated every year during September. 2. The bunker’s key is located at the duty guard. 3. DO NOT go home with the bunker’s key. As soon as the student leaves the bunker, for example, to go to a lecture, he has to hand over the key to the duty guard. If he/she wants to return to the bunker after the lecture, the key must be taken from the duty guard again. 4. DO NOT treat the equipment and furniture available in the bunker ruthlessly and inappropriately. The fire safety regulations of the University of Latvia must also be observed. 5. Foundations of Cultural Studies for German Literature Students
Course
The course aims to introduce the students to the fundamentals of cultural studies. Course task is to offer lectures on the main theories and trends (with special emphasis on those originating in Germany), which will allow students to acquire theoretical knowledge and develop necessary transferable research skills and abilities. Considerable attention is paid to students' independent work, including work with theory sources as well as the analysis and interpretation of the latter. The course is taught in German.
