Course
The aim of the course is to provide BA students with knowledge of matters of law that are common for all civil law. The course deals with the role and importance of civil law in the legal system. The course covers the following fundamental issues of civil law: the concept of civil law, the differences between general and special civil law, the subjects of civil law, the concept and implementation of subjective rights, subjects of civil law, the concept and types of legal transaction, the interpretation of legal transactions, lack of will in legal transactions, illegality of transactions, the form of legal transactions, representation in legal transaction.

The aim of the course is not only to provide information and practice students' skills within communication, but to transfer the newly acquired qualities in creating individually appropriate, relevant content, as well as to strengthen transversal skills (learning strategies, cooperation skills, critical evaluation of information, awareness of individual experience, development of new goals). Objectives of the course: 1. Review and get familiarized with the easiest ways of both oral and written communication; 2. Create new content related to both the creative and fantasy world - fictitious dialogues, imaginary interviews and with real life - communication, job interviews, filling out forms, participation in forum discussions; 3. Get familiarized with the aspects of written and oral communication culture. The language of instruction is German.

The study programme is dedicated to educating specialists with knowledge and skills in communication and media analysis. The students learn to understand communication processes, critically evaluate and analyse them, and most importantly – to create and influence them. The study programme “Communication Science” has 2 sub-programmes: Business communication and Media studies . Specialisation in one of them begins starting with the 3 rd (full-time students) or 4 th (part-time correspondence – distance learning students) semester.

The Faculty of Humanities offers students to select language courses of various levels as their free electives (C part): Latvian, English, German, French, Swedish, Norwegian, Estonian, Spanish, Italian, Modern Greek, Japanese, etc. The registration for free electives takes place during the registration week and the first week of studies in the LUIS profile. The aim of the course is to provide students with an understanding of intellectual property law and its regulation in modern world. The course introduces with a general description of intellectual property law and examines various objects of intellectual property law from the point of view of various forms of creative expression (mainly - designations of goods and services, appearance of goods, inventions), and characterises infringements of intellectual property rights and their prevention. Objects of intellectual property law is characterised from the point of view of their regulation at international, regional, and national levels, with an emphasis on the EU and Latvian national regulation.

Full-time: Monday – Friday (budget sites and paying students) Part-time in Riga: Studies take place on two working-day evenings remotely (Wednesday and Thursday) and on-site on Friday or Saturday (only fee-based studies from 15 students in the group) The study semester starts from the first full week of the month (September and February), the next academic year begins on 4 September 2023.

The Laser Centre is the largest laser resource in Latvia and a unique experimental infrastructure at national and regional (Baltic States) scale. It was established in 2005 by a major investment of the University aimed at facilitating high-level research education embedded in the environment of a modern research laboratory. The infrastructure of the Laser Centre houses a laser pool consisting of several single mode ring dye laser systems that provide the necessary number of coherent light sources for complex laser manipulation experiments, and various diode laser sources. An incorporated teaching laboratory serves as the training ground for students in handling complex laser systems. It allows the researchers to perform experiments with supersonic molecular beams, reaction fragment imaging, Fourier spectrometry, and a magneto-optical trap for cold atom experiments is being built.
