About a year and a half ago, the first seminar was organized where doctoral students and degree applicants talked about the progress and plans of developing their theses. We plan to repeat this procedure again and make it an annual tradition. A discussion with degree applicants was already held; during it, those present were introduced to the procedure for submitting and defending a doctoral thesis at the FMOF UL, Physics Department. Now we plan to move further and let the 1st year doctoral students, who are just starting their doctoral studies, talk about their plans, while the next seminars will be attended by 2nd and 3rd year doctoral students. The aim of the course is to provide an in-depth insight into the work of the EU Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights, focusing on those aspects of the judicial process that may be important for a practicing lawyer in Latvia. In the part dedicated to the EU Court, questions about the competences and court proceedings of the EU Court in the EU Court will be discussed, in particular by analyzing in detail the cooperation between the courts of the Member States (including Latvia) and the European Court of Justice's preliminary ruling procedure. The part of the course devoted to the European Court of Human Rights will focus on issues related to the European Court of Human Rights process, the preconditions for making complaints before the European Court of Human Rights, as well as the latest rulings of the European Court of Human Rights against the Republic of Latvia. The aim of the course is to promote students creative and research skills in design and technologies by providing students with an understanding of the basic knowledge and basic skills needed for public and personal life. The tasks: 1. To introduce with design examples, providing an inspiring environment, to invite students to study, experiment and analyse, find solutions to multiple learning tasks. 2. Building critical thinking on learning technologies for planning, organising and evaluating design and craft lessons; 3. Describe the basic activities of craftwork technology, explore material characteristics, hand tools and use creatively in the making of items; 4. Explore crafting skills and modern development technologies in the making of items as well as design and engineering solutions. The language of instruction is Latvian.

The aim of the course is to provide a systematic description of modern German vocabulary, as well as to improve students’ knowledge of the German phraseology (idiom) system, to expand students' vocabulary and to enrich their style of expression (written and oral). The objectives of the course: 1. Get familiarized with the most characteristic features of the origin of German words and the morphological structure of words; 2. Get familiarized with the main types of word formation and the possibilities for expanding the German vocabulary; 3. Explain the peculiarities of the meaning of German words, and the relationship of words to each other in the language system and speech; 4. Get familiarized with the development of phraseology as a science, recognize phraseologisms in written and spoken discourse, analyze their application: basic use, stylistic use.
