This is a B-level elective of 32 hours, with lectures and seminars as part of the process. Latvia is constantly preparing new normative regulations because of its membership in the European Union, and because of the constant development of new information technologies. That’s why Latvia is creating an area of public law that is part of the legal systems of Western Europe and other regions of the world – data protection laws which speak to constitutional, international and administrative law, as well as several elements of human rights. The concept of “data protection” usually refers to the protection of an individual’s private life in terms of legal norms. Any information about individuals can be the subject of civil procedure, and so norms related to data protection are aimed at striking a balance between various interests. The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge about the process of information system (IS) requirements clarification, analysis and documentation. The course envisages the application of the information acquired in lectures in practical classes, simulating the relationship between the customer and the developer. Within the course, students perform the following main tasks: perform system analysis using interviewing methods and learn requirements accumulation methods, present their results in two rounds and prepare a system implementation vision document, including main requirements, technological solution, approximate development plan, additional costs and customer benefits from system implementation, etc. Language of the course - Latvian.

The aim of the course is to provide an insight in the national security questions in the context of contemporary international security challenges and internal aspects of security. To achieve the stated aim, the following objectives are identified: mapping current threats and risks for the national security of Latvia, describing the process and decision making of national security formulation and the roles and functions of institutions involved, and identifying internal security challenges and tasks of the state and society in the response to a variety of hybrid threats. The course is designed to promote a better understanding on dealing with national security issues in democratic societies, to consider expanding of the meaning of security, and to discuss new conceptual and practical solutions regarding how to ensure national and societal security. The students are provided with an opportunity to critically assess specific cases, demonstrate analytical skills and present solutions

The course is intended for students who have acquired the Russian language at the elementary level A1. The aim of the course is the development of the communicative competence of students. The goals of the course are as follows: improvement of the reading, listening and writing skills (Level A2); correction and improvement of pronunciation; development of vocabulary; acquisition of grammatical patterns of the Russian language; introduction to peculiarities of the Russian cultural communicative behavior. The course is based on the communicative approach which is intended to activate the language skills using the communication-oriented tasks. The content of the course is worked out in accordance with the demands of the EU language politics.

The aim of the course is to develop students' understanding about the grammatical structures of the English language as well as facilitate their use in English spoken and written communication in academic, professional and everyday social discourse. The course objectives are: 1) to strengthen students' knowledge knowledge about the verb, modal verbs, reported speech, questions, noun and its determiners, adjectives and adverbs contextual use in various communicative situations at B2/C1 level. 2) to develop skills and competences to recognise, compare, analyse and use grammatical structures in discourse. The course is delivered in English.

The course is a logical continuation of the first part of the course Russian as a Foreign Language, which belongs to A 1 1 level. The course is oriented towards students who continue learning of the Russian Language on the elementary level. The goal of the course is the following: development of the communicative competence of students. The aims of the course are as follows: development of the reading, listening and writing skills which correspond to the level A1 (beginners); correction of pronunciation; broadening of the lexical minimum; acquisition of the grammatical patterns of the Russian language. The content of the course is worked out in accordance with demands of the EU language politics.
