Russian Literature Abroad

The aim of the course is to develop students’ understanding of two trend lines of the Russian literature, which developed simultaneously (literature of metropolis and literature of emigration), as a single literary process of the Russian literature of the XX century. The objectives of the course are the following: 1. To develop an understanding of the peculiarities of Russian emigration and the factors influencing it; 2. To develop the ability to analyze texts written at different stages of emigration; 3. To form the understanding of the theoretical basis of the literature of Russian emigration; 4. To develop the skills of contextual and comparative analysis. The course is devoted to the study of literature of Russian emigration in the 1920a-1990s., to the works of writers of three waves of Russian emigration, to the works of older and younger generations of prose writers and poets (of the first wave).

Advanced mathematical methods with Python, R and Matlab

The main aim of the course is to cover data processing, data visualization, classical mathematical problem solving, statistical analysis and building machine learning models using Python, R and Matlab programming languages. The goal of the course is to introduce students to the applications of Python, R and Matlab programming languages in mathematics, statistics and data science. The objectives are: to learn or recall the basics, principles and syntax of the programming languages Python, R and Matlab; to review different data processing and visualization methods and approaches; learn how to solve different mathematical problems using Python and Matlab; perform statistical analysis using Python and R; build different machine learning models using Python and R. The course is taught in Latvian and English.

The aim of the course is to ensure the acquisition of the concepts, research methodology, concepts and artifacts of the historical development of culture, which are essential for the development of understanding of the cultural and environmental heritage and the study of humanities. The tasks are to introduce the students with: 1. specific methods and forms of knowledge specific to the sub-sectors of cultural philosophy and cultural history; 2. an analysis of the historical periods of culture and their characteristic patterns of world perception; 3. essential aspects of the formation and development of culture and civilization; 4. the major commonalities and differences between Eastern and Western cultures and worldviews. In the acquisition of the course, emphasis is placed on the critical analysis of cultural-philosophical, cultural-historical texts and argumentation, as well as on the location of cultural historical and contemporary artifacts in the cultural context. The study course forms an understanding of learning through learning, learning approaches, the use of different approaches, in line with the child's capabilities, skills, experience, and development, and the best interests of the child, by promoting the development of skills through skills. In lectures, seminars, and the development of independent works, students will be able to plan, organize a learning process that contributes to meaningful learning in a pre-primary education institution, in accordance with national pre-primary education guidelines, the program, and the “Skola 2030” project guidelines. As part of the course, students shall analyze and assess the achievements of children in accordance with the evaluation criteria and the learning results to be achieved, taking into account the legal nature of child development, and understand the importance of feedback in the context of the learning process.
