The course is developed for the first study year of ophthalmology and for to ophthalmology related specialties residents to acquire theoretical and practical skills on examination and treatment patients with refractive errors. Refraction and contact lenses is acquired in parts during the 1st and 2nd study year. Tasks of the course: -to acquire the examination of a patient in the case of refractive errors, assessment of patient general condition, and the collection of anamnesis; -to acquire the evaluation of refractive condition, their types, methods for the determination of its strength; -to acquire the main parameters of lenses, peculiarities of refraction; -to acquire the types of contact lens, the indications and contraindications for their application; -to acquire indications for application of therapeutic contact lenses, duration of use, possible complications, the diagnostics of complications, treatment options. The course is taught in Latvian.

Literary and cultural history of Scandinavia/Nordic countries (mainly Sweden) and German-speaking countries, their contacts and influences in the Baltics. Translations. Study of the characteristics of literary and cultural phenomena, identification of their interrelationships; existence and/or necessity of translations. Cultural and Sports affairs handle various projects. Every year, significant and large-scale events such as " Aristotle", the UL Student Sports Games and the UL SP Annual Awards are organised. Application: methods for assessment of refractive errors. Day 2 Theory: assessment of near vision functions. Introduction to contact lenses. Patient examination of applicability for contact lenses. Basic principles of fitting and prescribing spherical contact lenses. Application: tear film assessment. Fitting and evaluation of spherical contact lenses with biomicroscope. Day 3 Theory: assessment of anterior segment with biomicroscope. Basic principles of fitting and prescribing astigmatic and multifocal contact lenses. Contact lens care and storage. Complications caused by contact lenses. Application: fitting of astigmatic and multifocal contact lenses. Assessment of anterior structures with biomicroscope.

For several months – from January to May – the UL Innovation Centre LUMICprovided students with an opportunity to implement their ideas in teams.The Idea Laboratory took place within the framework of the UL New Technologies and Innovations Day. The geographical distribution determines the specific characteristics of the language in each country. In Latin America, Spanish is the official language in 18 countries. This course provides an insight into the development of Spanish language variants, commonalities and differences of the Spanish language. It addresses such important issues as the unity and standardisation of language, language contacts and policy, the impact of migration processes and the linguistic situation. Latin America is characterised by linguistic diversity, determined by both historical and migratory aspects. The course will also focus on the topics of Aboriginal languages and cultures. The aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge that would allow them to identify and distinguish between different variants and variations

Programmers’ Day of Latvia is celebrated since 1986. The event annually brings together students, lecturers, business representatives and IT enthusiasts from higher education institutions of Latvia. Under the auspices of the event, a conference is organised, featuring the talks by experts from both the academic environment and the IT industry about current and innovative topics. Workshops are organized for students to gain entirely new knowledge and skills.
