The aim of the course “Current Issues in Qualification of Criminal Offences” is to provide students an opportunity to enhance their knowledge on several important institutes of general and special parts of the criminal law: constituent elements of a criminal offence; separate types of criminal offences and their qualification in conjunction with stages of committing a criminal offence; participation of several persons in committing of a criminal offence and multiformity of criminal offences, thus ensuring a uniform understanding of criminal law and practice of its application Objectives of the course: 1)To exercise an enhanced learning of theoretical knowledge of criminal law on separate institutes of the general and special parts of the criminal law; 2)To analyse application of regulations of the law and theoretical insights in practice by ensuring the learning of practical skills; 3)To identify problematic issues in qualification of criminal offences and to search for choices

Chinese Language Consecutive Interpreting III
Course
The aim of the study course: is to provide master’s level humanities students who specialize in sinology with possibility to improve consecutive translation skills from and into Chinese language. Objectives of the course: 1. to improve students’ consecutive translation skills by interpreting audio and video recordings from and into Chinese language; 2. to introduce students to the content of Chinese and Latvian electronic media in relation to transnational cooperation and bilateral relations; 3. to deepen students’ knowledge about pronunciation, terminology and phraseology of Chinese language in different regions and about peculiarities of the pronunciation of individuals, their style of speech; 4. to improve students’ Chinese speaking and listening skills up to the level C1. Languages of instruction: Latvian, English and Chinese.

International Environmental Law
Course
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of international environmental law. The course starts with a general discourse on the functions of law and how can law be employed to address global and regional environmental problems. A special emphasis is placed the relationship of environmental law and environmental ethics. Then students learn basics on sources of international law and explore how these sources apply to the protection of environment. This general introduction is followed by a more detailed analysis of particular areas such as climate change, biodiversity, water law, high seas fisheries, state responsibility and other topical issues. The emphasis in this course is placed on interactive study methods e.g., active student engagement via teamwork, discussions and student presentations.

In learning the national and international legal provisions regulating criminal procedure activities within the framework of international cooperation to understand the theoretical grounds of this cooperation and to know how to qualitatively apply these provisions in practice.
