Japanese Civilization and Culture
Course
The aim of the study course is to provide basic students of the humanities with the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the history of Japanese culture and civilization from the beginning of the Kamakura period (13th century) to the Meiji period (19th century). Tasks of the study course: 1. to acquaint students with the most important cultural and historical processes in Japan from the 13th century. until the 19th century 2. to acquaint students with the most outstanding personalities of history; 3. to acquaint students with the most important achievements in the history of Japanese civilization and culture. To promote a culture of altruism among the scholarship recipients, each semester the scholars are invited to volunteer. Each University of Latvia Foundation scholarship holder in the 2022/2023 academic year must invest at least 20 hours into volunteer work per semester. Volunteer work should preferably be performed for the benefit of the University of Latvia Foundation, the University of Latvia or the state and society of Latvia. The University of Latvia Foundation scholarship recipients are invited to fill in an online questionnaire about their favourite volunteer work opportunities at the University of Latvia Foundation. If necessary, a representative of the University of Latvia Foundation will contact each interested person individually. Ethnography in the Context of Folklore
Course
The main goal of the course is to acquire Latvian material culture (ethnographic discourse) in the context of folklore. The listeners of the course get an overview of Latvia's cultural and historical heritage (ethnographic) regions, as well as their historical components. The course deals with the craft traditions of the regions, cooking, the use of plants in folk medicine, and understanding the landscape. The tasks of the course are: 1) to acquaint oneself with the basic lines of contact between ethnography and folklore; 2) to develop students' understanding of the importance of the material culture in the context of cultural heritage. The language of instruction is Latvian.

The students of the Faculty of Humanities can apply for Erasmus+ internship. A student, finding the internship in one of the enterprises abroad (Erasmus zone countries only), can get a scholarship from the University of Latvia. The application procedure: A student should find a place for his/her internship. However, before that a student should discuss the internship with the director of the programme (how the internship can be included into the programme). A student should get an acceptance letter that confirms the readiness of an enterprise to accept the student for the period of the internship. The aim of the study course is to promote students' understanding of the main infectious diseases, intra-hospital infections and their risks in diagnostic radiology and radiation therapy. Tasks of the study course: to acquaint with the main concepts of infectious discipline, epidemiology of infectious diseases, acute and chronic respiratory and digestive system infectious diseases, parasitic invasions, blood and contact infections; to describe the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnostic and treatment principles and preventive measures of infectious diseases; to describe the main intrahospinal infections and their impact on the recovery process of patients. The study course is taught in Latvian.

The aim of the course is to continue develop students' manual skills and dexterity by integrating theoretical knowledge into clinical practice and developing an evidence-based clinical approach. Course Tasks Perform clinical work with the patient, integrating knowledge and skills on 1.professional ethics, both in dealing with the patient and in contact with colleagues, 2.collection of anamnesis, 3.extraoral and intraoral examination of the patient and recording of findings on the patient's clinical card, 4.prevenation of oral diseases, 5.conventional approach to cariology, endodontology, periodontology, oral surgery and oral prosthetics. The course is implemented in English.

Pediatrics and children rights for dentistry students
Course
Purpose of the study course – to provide general paediatric and child's rights foundations for working with children in an interdisciplinary perspective. Study course assignments: 1. Ensure the skills to recognise children's developmental and health disorders. 2. To provide knowledge of the relationship of oral health problems in children to preventable childhood infections and systemic diseases. 3. To raise awareness of the fundamental principles of the rights of the child and contact with the little patient. 4.To build competence on the preconditions for the development of a healthy child and the precursence of risks/hazards in a cross-sectoral approach. The course is implemented in English.
