Research competence secures students’ academic growth and enhances their employability. The course aims at fostering students’ research motivation by enhancing their research skills in the humanities. The course offers a structured approach to developing research skills and critical thinking. By focusing on methodological diversity, research ethics, and the use of AI, students develop strategies to navigate the complexities of humanities research and make a meaningful contribution to the field. Course objectives: - to introduce different research methodologies used in the humanities; - to explore qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods; - to address digital research and information literacy issues; - provide approaches to research design, implementation, and assessment.

During the course students – future primary school teachers- clarify the principles of the selection of laboratory experiments and demonstration experiments. They plan, prepare and demonstrate and carry out laboratory experiments in science using different methods. Students analyze their own and colleagues work.

The course provides knowledge on content and principles of the science of criminal law, and the Criminal Law as the source of criminal justice. The course can be relatively divided into three parts, each devoted to very important questions of criminal law: the Criminal Law (its concept, objectives, force in time and space); criminal offence (its concept, elements, classification, constitution, etc.); and punishment (its concept, purpose, questions on determination and enforcement of punishment, etc.). The course views also experience of foreign legislators and case-law, judicature in the Republic of Latvia. The course turns attention to the meaning and functions of the State Probation Service, understanding of various forms of supervision in society. Tasks – 1. to promote students' understanding of the necessity of the sports activities in the daily life; 2. to improve students' skill to perform various physical exercises that develop general physical fitness; 3. to promote overall understanding of a healthy lifestyle; 4. to develop students' general physical fitness level, at the same time focusing on the correct and considered amount of exercise. The languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Studentcentred Teaching Methods for the 21st Century Skills Development

The aim of the programme is to develop the professional competence of the higher education staff in implementing student centred approach and innovative teaching methods in the study process. The participants will have the possibility to expand their knowledge about the pedagogical innovations in higher education and acquire innovative teaching methods, which will encourage and motivate the students to actively participate in the study process, develop the 21st century skills as well as offer an exciting study experience. The activities will offer practical examples of student centred learning that leads to the 21st century skill development. The project is implemented within the framework of the Erasmus + project "Entrance to future education" and is co-funded by the European Union.
