The following priority research directions have been defined at the University of Latvia for 2025–2027: 

  1. Development of human capital, creation of a healthy, knowledge-based society;
  2. Sustainability of the state, Latvian language and national identity, strengthening of history research and civic education – directions of a new social contract;
  3. Technological and digital development of the state;
  4. Strengthening global competitiveness;
  5. Increasing innovation capacity;
  6. Development of the state financial system and capital market. Tax system and its principles;
  7. Strengthening international and national security;
  8. Environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation;
  9. Efficiency of public administration.

The development, enhancement, and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) tools serve as a key cross-cutting element in all activities carried out within priority research areas.
