LIFE is the European Commission’s financial instrument for promoting, actualisation, developing and implementing the EU’s environmental and climate policy by co-funding environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects throughout the EU.
The new multi-annual work programme identifies priority areas for Environment and Climate Action sub-programmes of the LIFE Programme for the next funding period, 2014–2020. The LIFE Programme supports projects in the fields of environment and resource efficiency, nature and biodiversity, and climate action.
LIFE Programme has two sub-programmes:
1. Environment sub-programme with project funding of 1.3 billion EUR for the period of 2014–2017 covers the following priority areas:
- environment and resource efficiency
- nature and biodiversity
- environmental governance and information
2. Climate Action sub-programme with project funding of 449 million EUR for the period of 2014–2017 covers the following priority areas:
- climate change mitigation
- climate change adaptation
- climate governance and information
