Eighty years have passed since the establishment of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at University of Latvia. The article deals with the history of studies in physics and mathematics, and the establishment of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics during the first Soviet occupation in the academic year, 1940/41, its transformations during the German Nazi occupation, the rebuilding of the faculty after the war, and its development until 1958 during the second Soviet occupation.
