"Latvijas Universitātes fonds" supports start of Nanopore sequencing in the IMB

Nanopore sequencing is emerging and probably the most rapidly developing sequencing technique. This sequencing technique might be useful for unknown genome draft sequencing or specific applicon sequencing.

Institute won the Latvijas Univeristātes fonds (http://www.fonds.lv) call for Mikrotik donation (http://www.fonds.lv/mecenati/platina/sia-mikrotikls/), project leader Janis Liepins. As a result, minION device, several flow cells, sequencing kits and computer adopted for minION data acquisition and analyses were purchased. We foresee to use minION device for sequencing of previously poorly characterised yeast strains, non- homologous recombination mutants, communities of environmental microorganisms and specific applicons necessary to support metabolic engineering experiments.
