With the beautiful setting of the Apotheketrakt in the grounds of the Schönbrunn castle in Vienna, the EFB Designer Biology meeting brought together scientists and companies working in biological engineering from the atomic-scale up to organisms and materials. There were over 70 participants from 13 countries across the globe.
The diversity of research presented and participants at the meeting made for a particularly interesting programme, with discussion topics ranging from optogenetics and enzyme engineering to wound dressings and paper-coatings.
Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, University of Latvia, was represented by Uldis Kalnenieks with a poster report: Inese Strazdina, Elina Balodite, Reinis Rutkis, Nina Galinina, Armands Vigants and Uldis Kalnenieks “Pyruvate production in respiring Zymomonas mobilis pyruvate decarboxylase mutants”.
