Institute of Physics has a variety of research facilities and instruments that are used for wide range of experimental studies. Below can be found a summary of it.

Used for:
Construction material corrosion experiments with (up to 1.8 Tesla) and without magnetic field up to 500°C.  

Combustion Analyser

Model: Testo 350XL
Used for:
  • All types of industrial burners adjustment
  • Concentration measurement in crude and clean gas over a longer period of time
  • Atmosphere checking of all types of process furnace
  • Maintainance of stationary motors such as block-type thermal power stations
  • Checking gas pressures and gas velocities in flue gas and also in additional air ducts

Infrared Thermal Imager

Used for:

Used for:
Calibration of conduction and induction type flowmeters, modelling of permanent magnet pumps. Other theromohydraulic component tests possible.

Riga Dinamo Sodium Facility

With this machinery (11.11.1999) for the first time in the world, in laboratory environment earths magnetic field reconstruction process was demonstrated. More information about the experiment here.

Used for:
Studies on SFR equipment and stability of electromagnetic pump. This facility has two flat linear induction pumps, Venturi flowmeter, 8 velocity measurements in inlet/outlet, detailed 144-point measurement of magnetic field distribution, possible connections of pumps in parallel and series.

Ultrasonic Doppler Velocimeter

Model: DOP2000
Parameters:
  • Generates any emitting frequencies between 0.45 MHz and 10.5 MHz
Used for measurement of:
  • Instantaneous velocity, Doppler energy and echo profiles
  • Spectral density (FFT)
  • Histograms
  • Flow rate in flowing liquids
It uses pulsed ultrasonic echo technique, computes and displays in real time these data profiles based on the analysis of a user’s specified number of gates placed along the ultrasonic beam.  

Vibrating Sample Magnetometer
