Unique equipment, software and data sets in possession of GGI
Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of LU has unique equipment, software and data sets concerning environment of Latvia:
1. Original digital zenith camera for vertical deflection determination, it’s control, data acquisition and processing software. Equipment and software can be used for research of Earth gravity field properties and development of detailed local geoid model.
2. Original satellite laser ranging device of small dimensions (SLR) for measurement of satellite orbits, it’s control and data processing software. Equipment is developed for monitoring of satellite orbits, obtaining of geodynamic data, monitoring of geodetic coordinate systems of the world. Satellite laser ranging device could be improved for creation of mobile SLR system for performing of observations in diverse sites of the world.
3. Scientific Bernese software for processing of Global Satellite Navigation Systems (GNSS) observation data, used to process GNSS observation series from all permanent GNSS stations of Latvia (EUPOS-Rīga, LatPos, IGS/EPN station Rīga) - unique geophysical data sets concerning Latvian and Baltic environment.
4. Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics has developed Latvian geoid model with RMS of 1.6 cm using software, acquired from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (Germany). (So far Latvia had 5-8 cm RMS, 4 cm in Estonia, Lithuania - 5.5 cm).
5. Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics of LU is co-author in the development of GNSS network of permanent operation "EUPOS-Rīga" and participates in its maintenance. EUPOS-Rīga provides RTCM corrections for GNSS real time measurements with accuracy of 1-2 cm.
6. The Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics posess 2 sets of high quality GNSS observation equipment: TOPCON GR5 and GR3 and appropriate data processing software. They support processing of satellite signals from GPS, Galileo and GLONASS families in frequencies L1, L2 and L2C, as well as real time measurements using RTCM corrections.
7. Institute posess a high accuracy Trimble computerized electronic tachometer. This instrument provides angular measurements with 2 arc-second accuracy and distance measurement accuracy of 1mm.
8. Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics posess the latest ESRI and ERDAS modification geographic information system software packages and significant amount of GIS information of the Latvian environment.
