Development of geographical information systems

From 1996 year Department started to develop GIS for utilities companies - gas and electricity etc. companies, transport system (Traffic Department of the Riga City Council, Rail of Latvia), territorial development planning, as also 3D models and digital maps for cellular network planning – TELE2 Ltd., Siemens Ltd., Latvia Mobile Phone Ltd., Lattelecom Ltd, Baltcom Ltd., Baltkom GSM Ltd. etc.

The Department also has research related with urban spatial structures analyses, evaluation and spatial planning, as well as spatial analyses and simulation for tourism, business structure development planning etc.
