The sub-programme will be attractive to anyone interested in the German language and literature - not only in Germany, but also in other "German" countries and regions of Europe. Students will gain knowledge in German language and literature, as well as knowledge of Latvian cultural history as Germans had great importance in the history and culture of the entire Baltics. During their studies, students learn in depth German as well as a second foreign language. Students are also offered professional orientation courses in translation and German language didactics.
Study period and classes time
The full – time degree programme covers three academic years. Classes are mainly from 8.30am till 6pm in the working days.

Job opportunities are wide: state and municipal institutions, foreign affairs departments, national embassies (cultural and / or public relations / media information specialist), media companies and publishing houses (editor, proofreader, advertising specialist), translation agencies, research institutions (language specialist, consultant ), libraries, museums (knowledge of language / literature materials, organizer of cultural / educational events), schools, language courses (teacher).

Admission requirements
- General secondary high school diploma.
- The average grade of the secondary education document in all subjects must be at least 6 (on a 10-point scale).
- German language proficiency
- English language proficiency
- All grades must be passing (at least 4 on a 10-point scale).
Enrollment criteria (for students competing for the state-financed study place)
1. The grade in English (30%);
2. The grade in German (50%);
3. Grade point average (20%);
Please note! Only EU/EEA/Swiss citizens and EU long-term resident status holders can compete for a state-financed study place.
As a part of the admission process applicants will be asked to participate in an online interview.
