1. Transportation in Riga The public transport system in Riga consists of buses, trams, trolleybuses, minibuses and trains. They operate daily between 5:30 a.m. and approximately 11:30 p.m. Some routes have a night service once per hour.

Tickets for buses, trams and trolleybuses can be purchased from the driver (EUR 2.00), however, it is cheaper to purchase an e-ticket at any of the ticket trade outlets (“Narvessen” kiosks, ticket vending machines, as well as post office and several “Maxima” and “Rimi” shops). With an e-ticket one ride costs EUR 1.15. It is possible to purchase e-tickets also for two or more rides, as well as daily and monthly e-tickets (see Types and prices of e-tickets)

  A ride in Minibus following a special route costs EUR 1.15 (EUR 2.00 purchased from the driver).  

Train ticket within Riga city limits costs EUR 0.70 per ride. Many people use rail transportation to reach the coastal resort town of Jurmala. A one-way ticket, for example, to Jurmala station "Majori" costs EUR 1.40.

 

Taxi ride costs around EUR 0.90-2.00 for boarding and EUR 0.45-0.90 per km.

2. Intercity transportation When travelling around Latvia, most of the towns and cities are easily accessible by regional transportation systems – trains or buses.

The towns closest to Riga — Jūrmala, Sigulda, Cēsis, Valmiera, Saulkrasti, Jelgava, Tukums, Ogre — are easily accessible by train from the Central Railway Station. The train can take you also to distant towns as Liepāja, Daugavpils and Zilupe. Train carriages with a bike logo on the door have storage space for bicycles as well. The tickets are sold at the Railway stations or from the ticket-controller (NB! Only in cases if there is no ticket office at the train-stop)

Latvia has an even wider network of bus routes. Tickets can be purchased at bus stations, or from the driver on a bus shortly before departure, as well as online. Information on intercity bus and train timetables and prices: www.1188.lv
