Among the indicators to be achieved according to UL Strategy 2021–2027 is an increase in the number of foreign students. “Our goal is to ensure that at least 12% of the total number of students at UL come from abroad. Studies of people representing different countries side by side create an inclusive, cooperation- and innovation-oriented culture both at UL and in Latvia as a whole. This year, the increased interest of foreign students in studying at UL is the result of our meticulous effort, actively working in previously selected target markets both individually and in cooperation with Latvian state institutions and business organizations,” explains UL Vice-Rector for Studies Kristīne Strada-Rozenberga.
Applicants for the upcoming academic year represent 105 countries of the world. Of the approved applications, approximately half of the applicants have already been offered a study place, while the processing of the required documents continues for some candidates. Germany, India, Azerbaijan and Turkey represent the largest number of the already approved candidates.
At present, students from 82 countries of the world are studying at UL, which comprises 7.3% of the total student community at the university.
