The aim of the international project HIVE (HEI Innovation for Knowledge Intensive Entrepreneurship) is to increase the innovation and entrepreneurial capacity of project partners by identifying good practices at national and international level and promoting networking. One of the main tasks of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the commercialisation innovation ecosystem and to introduce institutional change in higher education through the implementation of a jointly developed Innovation Vision Action Plan for the time period up to 2030.
The event will be opened by the UL Rector Professor Gundars Bērziņš and the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Economics Jurģis Miezainis.
The UL Project Manager Airita Brenča will provide the overview of the progress achieved in the joint work of the consortium, the UL's Leading Expert Iveta Ozoliņa will introduce the audience to the achievements of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office, and Edvards Francis Kuks, the Head of the RIS3 (the Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization) Unit of the Department of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Ministry of Education and Science, will present an insight into the overall research work in Latvia. Sofija Grīnvalde, Head of Innovation Management Division of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, will inform about the tools for promoting innovation in entrepreneurship.
Anton Adamovic, the Latvian Community Officer of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) will explain the possibilities for uniting Latvia’s innovation ecosystems; EIT performance, the key statistics and call insights will be reported by Marija Plotniece, Senior Expert of the National Contact Point of the Latvian Council of Science for “Horizon Europe”, while Natalie Cernecka, EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative Manager, will inform about the EIT's in-depth technology initiatives and the opportunities they provide to higher education institutions.
The start-up enterprises supported by the consortium, “Phosphorus Recovery”, “Fungo” and “Skinfuture”, will also join the participants of the event.
The event will be concluded by a discussion that will clarify the consortium's common vision for the future of the project's sustainability and discuss future cooperation initiatives and opportunities.

The project consortium, led by the University of Latvia, consists of the University of Coimbra (Portugal), Riga Stradiņš University (Latvia), Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Bulgaria), Czech University of Life Sciences (Czechia), University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt (Austria), TED University (Turkey), ESSEC Business School (France), Bukovinian State Medical University (Ukraine), Dnipro University of Technology (Ukraine), Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Ukraine), as well as online education platform “Coursera” (USA).
The project is funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology HEI initiative “Innovation Capacity Building for Higher Education”.
