The QS World University Rankings are among the world’s most influential and widely recognized university rankings. Every year, more and more higher education institutions are included in this ranking – this year, 2 963 were evaluated, and 1 499 universities from more than 100 countries of the world were included in the QS Rankings.
The QS World University Rankings evaluate the performance of the universities on the basis of several criteria – academic reputation, citations, employer reputation, employability, social and environmental impact of universities as centres of education and research, as well as the proportion of foreign students and academic staff and the international research network.
“The assessment achieved in in the QS World University Rankings attests that the strength of the University of Latvia is international research and the success of graduates in the labour market, and this is the merit of the University family. Clearly, we should devote more attention to the attraction of international students and academic staff. The consolidation of the university structure and the development of the Academic Centre will certainly contribute to significant improvement of performance in these areas. New indicators were introduced in the methodology of the QS World University Rankings last year, ensuring an increased emphasis on objectively evaluated criteria. Therefore, it is a particular accomplishment that the University has shown a rapidly rising performance in the group of the best universities in the world”, says the Rector of UL, Professor Indriķis Muižnieks.
UL has attained the highest assessment in the categories of employability and employer reputation, which not only evaluate the global perception of employers about which institutions educate the most competitive graduates, but also reflect the institutions’ ability to provide graduates with a high level of employment.
The highest results in the QS World University Rankings 2024 are achieved by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the second place – by University of Cambridge, while the third – by University of Oxford.
