Due to the Cabinet of Ministers Order No. 103 of March 12, 2020 “On Declaration of Emergency situation”, the study process at the University of Latvia is organized remotely in accordance with the existing list of classes.

By taking study courses remotely, the student:

  • joins a specific e-course in the UL E-learning environment at the time specified in the schedule estudijas.lu.lv;
  • follow the lecturer's instructions for the course;
  • remotely consult with the lecturer on course acquisition;
  • if the study process in the remote mode does not take place or the student is unable to participate, report the situation to the Dean.

When conducting study courses remotely, the lecturer

  • communicates with the students registered for the course within the time prescribed in the list of classes and remotely implement the work provided for the study process;
  • implements the study course in accordance with the plan specified in the course description, if necessary, making corrections to the plan and informing the students in advance about changes;
  • provides the student with the achievement of the learning outcomes specified in the study course description by using remote study organization forms, methods and forms of assessment suitable for distance learning or other forms of organization;
  • if necessary, plan additional examinations to ascertain student involvement and achievement of study results;
  • if necessary, make changes in the form of the final examination of the study course, informing the students at least one week before the examination;
  • in the e-course specifies the time of out-of-class counseling and the type of remote communication acceptable for counseling where the student may receive the necessary academic support;
  • if foreign students are enrolled in the study courses, follow their participation in the e-learning process (connection to the course, communication, completing assignments) to monitor their participation in the study process. If foreign students do not participate in the e-learning process for more than a week, the lecturer informs the Student Services Department by writing to studies@lu.lv.

When conducting internships outside the UL, internship supervisors evaluate the possibility to organize part of the internship tasks remotely or to postpone them, including during the summer semester.

In the event of a transfer of practice, study program directors should instead plan to take another successive course, including it in the list of classes.

The chairmen of the Promotion Boards shall postpone the meetings of the Promotion Board.

In order to ensure remote study process, deans of the faculties:

  • if necessary, propose to the Faculty Council to remotely decide on the deadline for submission and defense of the thesis;
  • provide the necessary support as well as control the fulfillment of the tasks set out in this guide.
