The reading room of the University of Latvia (UL) Library in Raiņa bulvāris from April 23 will host the exhibition showing the books presented by the Embassy of Armenia, Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan to the Rector of the University of Latvia, Professor Indriķis Muižnieks during their meeting on March 26.

This is the second present of books from the Embassy of Armenia, which complements the UL Library collection. The first gift was received in 2016. The present opens up new, perhaps unknown, pages both in Armenian and Turkish international relations, as well as the tragic time in Armenian history – a number of books are dedicated to Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire and Artsakh or Nagorno-Karabakh war in later centuries. The large-format atlas of Armenia features two large volumes of extensive cartographic information with colourful photographs that reveal the beauty and grandeur of this land. The gift also includes several editions about Armenian sacred culture and Christian art, as well as “Book of Lamentation” by Armenian monk and poet Gregory of Narek who lived in the 10th century. Overall, the UL Library has been augmented with 50 glamorous and valuable publications.

Visitors are welcome to view the exhibition in the Library reading room at Raiņa bulvāris 19, room 203, until May 18.
