Academic CentreFor the second consecutive year, a special scientific session was held to provide the most up-to-date readings for researchers who have received patron support. This is a true proof that the support of patrons opens up new horizons both for the supported researchers and scientific performance. This academic year, 21 UL doctoral students received scholarships and continued research with enthusiasm, thanks to patrons like Mikrotīkls, Eigits Dāvis Timermanis, Māris Vainovskis and attorney’s office “Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns”, as well as Alfreds Raister's testamentary bequest.
Chair of the first session, Assoc. Prof. Jānis Kloviņš emphasized that cooperation between different institutions – faculties, institutes, university hospitals and other higher education institutions – contributes to the research activity of doctoral students, and this is an important element in addition to scientific contribution. Chair of the second session, physicist, the Chair of the Board of the UL Foundation Prof. Ivars Lācis was elated to engage in discussions with the young researchers.
Elīna Černooka, a doctoral student at the UL Faculty of Biology, participated in the conference for the second time. She continues to receive the Mikrotīkls scholarship for PhD students in the field of exact, life and medical sciences. “I consider scholars’ scientific session supported by patrons a very informative and interesting event that strengthens the links among students, the UL Foundation and patrons. It allows you to get acquainted with the studies of other scholars and topicalities in Latvian science, giving new ideas and promoting communication among young scientists. Finally, this conference is an opportunity to thank the UL Foundation and the patrons for their support,” says the young researcher.
Elviss Dvinskis receives Alfreds Raisters Honorary Scholarship. It is intended to support future scientists with clear scientific aims. The doctoral student was pleased that the conference participants were interested in his research – the scientific work involved pharmacologically important enzyme research. E. Dvinskis commends the conference: “It was an interesting and useful experience, particularly listening about the studies that are not related to my field. It is very nice to hear that people are actually doing something worthwhile – that is how it should be.”
