UL mixed choir Juventus took part in the 18th International Stasys Simkus Choir Competition, November 24- 27, Klaipeda, Lithuania and won a special city award for high artistic choral culture, as well as received the Grand Prix.

This year children’s, female, male and mixed choirs from the Baltic States participated in the competition dedicated to the Lithuanian genius musician, composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis. So, all the choirs were to sing a compulsary a capella piece Kyrie. Juventus has also chosen pieces by Peteris Vasks, Renars Kaupers, Eriks Esenvalds, Klaudio Monteverdi and Gvido Lopez. Juventus has solid experience from participating in various international competitions and showing outstanding quality of choral singing. In January 2011, at the 9th International Sacral Music Festival Sudraba Zvani (Silver Bells) in Daugavpils, the choir was nominated for Grand Prix, for the first award in the mixed-choir category, as well as for The Best Performance. In August they made a long way to Macedonian Ohrid Choir Festival and proved their singing talent by winning the first prize in the mixed-choir category. Now a special Christmas repertoire is being prepared for the concert in the Lielā Aula (Great Aula), UL, on December 22.
