The UL computer science study programmes at present are the only ones in the Baltic states to fully comply with the requirements of the Euro-Inf quality certificate – the highest quality assurance for computer science study programmes. According to the standards defined by the certificate awarding organisation EQANIE, the UL programmes are recognized as excellent at the European level. The award of the certificate strengthens the international reputation of the UL computer science study programmes and provides added value of international recognition to students, confirming the excellence of this education.
On 29 January, the ceremonial awarding of the certificate took place in the UL Senate Hall, attended by EQANIE Vice-President Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Reischuk.
“The University of Latvia purposefully strives for excellence in studies and research. Receiving such recognition on a European scale confirms that the study programmes offered by UL meet the requirements of the modern labour market and have the capacity to prepare outstanding professionals to shape Latvia’s future and become world leaders in their field,” Kristīne Strada-Rozenberga, UL Vice-Rector for Studies provides her perspective regarding the awarded certificate.
EQANIE specializes in the quality assessment and accreditation of study programmes dedicated to informatics, computer science, IT, electronics and telecommunications throughout Europe. Its goal is to ensure and improve the quality of education in the field of informatics, developing uniform criteria and promoting international cooperation. This certificate is significant for both the University of Latvia and the entire Latvian education system, endorsing the competitiveness of these programmes on a global scale.
The organization, which was founded in Düsseldorf, Germany in 2009, grants certification to study programmes for six years, and the UL computer science study programmes have received this recognition for the third time.
